Nice strawman. No, no, no…what Pearl did 10 years before Barnes was hired is what propelled him to success don’t ya know? Never mind that Cuonzo and Tyndall made a mess of things before Barnes showed up and had to build things up from literally the ground up.
I didn't say anything remotely close to that.Maybe he said it somewhere else another time but I didn't see anything from antisunshine about Pearl being mistreated. I agree Pearl landed himself in trouble but I still appreciate what he did here.
Just because there was a couple of bad coaches in a short span between Pearl and Barnes doesn’t negate what I said or what Pearl accomplished.
Barnes could retire this year, and we could whiff on the next coach and have 3 years or so of bad basketball. Let's say we nail the next hire after that , and he ends up taking us to and getting us a Natty.
Are you saying that this new coach would have absolutely no reason to thank Barnes for what he has done for the program since he arrived?
Of course not. That would be dumb.
Hopefully, this helps you see how silly it is trying to discount Pearl helping make Tennessee men's basketball into what it is today.
Thanks to him and Barnes, we are no longer just a football and baseball school for men.
We were trying to move on so I will keep this short. Barnes doesn’t even end up here if not for Pearl. Like I said, he passed on us originally because we were a " football school".If Barnes stupidly got us NCAA penalties…followed by the following coaches doing the same or worse? No. I wouldn’t give Pearl any credit because he destroyed what good he had done. It would be a rebuilding project.
And that’s exactly what Pearl and Tyndall did here. Barnes was faced with a dumpster fire when he arrived. He absolutely gets credit for not just rebuilding it. But taking it to consistent greatness over a lengthy period.
Same as Caldwell. As much as we all loved Coach Summitt, her two successors let the Lady Vols fall into despair. If Caldwell rebuilds back into a power? Caldwell will absolutely gets credit the credit. Not Pat.
And I haven’t heard of Bear Bryant getting credit for Saban’s dynasty, either. Or Vince Dooley getting credit for Kirby’s.
The mental gymnasiums some of you go through to elevate former Vol coaches is mind boggling.
Hoping Bama hits the century mark. This is the 12th time this season that Kentucky's opponent has scored at least 80 points.
They didn't start out lighting it up from 3 tonight.I wish Kentucky would have played like this against us this year. They're checked out.
Joe Lunardi of Bracketology fame, has 14 SEC teams in the NCAA Tournament. Only LSU and South Carolina are out.Absolutely astounding that all 4 teams in the semifinals tomorrow are National Championship contenders. And none of them are named Kentucky. Never thought I’d ever see that in basketball in the SEC.
Like I said...Hoping Bama hits the century mark.
They didn't start out lighting it up from 3 tonight.
When they do that ( and keep it up), they gain confidence and can be hard to beat. We just got very unlucky and they shot over 50 % from 3 and the floor.
In both games. Not to mention we shot horrible from 3.
