2025 Target List

at 71 I just don't think Barnes is appealing to the top 25 high school recruits. Most of them want a buddy as a Head coach who also lets them play freely. It's fine we will continue to do well in the portal.
While I agree with this, mostly. Barnes still has one ace up his sleeve, "Come be my new Durant, but you gotta play defense, like KD did/does". He's not too old, when he still has KD playing at an all-NBA level and everybody still knows he played for Barnes in college. But alas, Vols probably don't get him, imo.

Went through who the coaches follow and I found 4-5 guys that describe the transfers that TB was talking about. I definitely could’ve skipped over some guys.

Jordan Pope - Texas
11.5ppg / 1.5rpg / 1.7apg

Budd Clark - Merrimack
19.2ppg / 4.2rpg / 6.0apg
(@CNeagleVolFan i think I’m gonna hop on the Budd train with you)

John Mobley Jr - OSU
13ppg / 1.8rpg / 2.4apg

Abdi Bashir Jr - Monmouth
21.6ppg / 2.5rpg / 2.5apg

Zion Stanford - Temple
11.7ppg / 4.0rpg / 2.0apg

Clark is interesting because he averages 19.2 ppg, but only shoots 2 3s per game, and only shoots 30% from 3. That means he is scoring the majority of his points going to the basket or on pull-ups. At 5-10, that is pretty incredible and he's shooting 45.6% from 2 on an average of 15 2-pt attempts per game.

Mobely is an excellent 3-pt shooter (41.6%) and definitely more SG than PG. Jordan Gainey type. He's from Columbus, playing in his hometown, and getting lots of PT and contributing at a high level. Hard to see him leaving there.

Bashir is probably my favorite of this bunch. 6-7 guard who shoots 40% from 3 on 10 attempts/gm. A true scoring threat from the wing. Will really remind you of a taller Chris Lofton. Like CLo, he's not super athletic, but he creates his own looks with range, rise, step-back ability, off balance shooting ability, fadeaway shot. If he comes available, he's gonna be at the top of a lot of school's lists. 20 pts vs Michigan St., 38 pts vs Rutgers, 28 pts vs Seton Hall, 15 pts vs Auburn.

Leads the nation in 2pt FGA which is wild for a guy his size, super quick and elevates well, loves the midrange pull up. He’s attempting more 3’s and shooting a better percentage than freshman year so after to think it’s something he realized needed work, either that or Rod Clark told him.

Hmmm...uncle, perhaps?

Basilio seems to think ZZ is confident on coming back. Interesting.
Of the 4 seniors I'd say only guarantees to come back are ZZ and Gainey if 5th year granted. Igor I could see wanting to get his professional career started in Europe. Mashack, almost kind of wonder if there's JJJ vibes his 4th year when seemed like he was ready for next stage of life. JJJ did end up basically leaving for draft and coming back so who knows.

I'll take ZZ and Gainey. Would be a tremendous uplift to the team next year.

Those two teamed with Estrella, Felix,, and Philips would be a sound core to add around some
quality transfers.

I don't see that. Mashack loves competing too much to not use another year if given the opportunity. He knows it will be his last opportunity to play the game at a high level/professionally. I think he jumps at the chance to come back. I don't have much of a read on Igor. He could certainly choose to start an overseas career. But it really just depends on what he values. Does he have NBA aspirations?
