Not really. The NBA caps rookie pay for obvious reasons.
Getting a guy to come back instead of testing the waters will always cost more than what they could max out on a rookie payscale, but it winds up being mutually beneficials to the school and the player.
Perfect example is none other than Kennedy Chandler... Tennessee should have done whatever they could to get him to come back one more year. He makes a lot and gets to develop another year under Barnes and Barnes gets another season of the dynamic duo of Kennedy and ZZ. Even more so when ZZ got hurt and we had no true PG.
A player's NIL value is worth what someone is willing to pay. I love this environment
