I’ll be fair to Mack though. He did have better averages than Gainey last season (first season playing major D1 ball for both)

Who knows, maybe Mack will have big jump like Gainey did this season after being here for 2 seasons. (He has 2 years left)

Not sure how anyone on Houston is any more of a”the guy” than Lanier or Knecht was here? Same for Florida, I mean maybe Clayton, but comparatively speaking he’s almost identical to Lanier and less than Knecht.

I think Clayton is a lot closer to Knecht than Lanier. Clayton is arguably the best guard in college basketball right now. He’s at least a 2 level scorer but I’d argue a 3 level scorer as he can get to the rim pretty well. Lanier improved some at the dribble drive, but never really got where we needed him to be. Not to mention the intangibles that Clayton seemed to possess when the lights are brightest. He really may be the most clutch scorer in crunch time in basketball this season.

I would give you Houston as not having a Knecht/Clayton type.

Until the roster starts to take shape, it’s hard to give a real opinion on if I think we have someone who can fill that role or if there are enough supporting pieces to maybe offset it.

McKneely seems like his style is more-so Lofton's... I dare say. Off balanced threes, but not someone who can drive in and get a bucket like DK though, and idk if he can get open and fight off screens as well as Chaz.

Our defense completely shut him down though, which is a tad concerning. I do realize we had an elite defense, but it wasn't immune from shooters going off on us.

Sorry but turning down a player who shoots over 40% from three would be a dumb decision.
Dubar shot 41% and then 39% from 3 two years before coming here. He shot 25% here. It's not that simple. You have to gauge how translatable it actually is

EDIT: Went back and read through the actual convo and yes you definitely take McKneely, that's not a question

That would make more sense if we hadn’t just dominated 3 games and also looked good in the 2nd half against Houston. I don’t think we lost legs, Houston plays smaller rotation than us, I think they just punched us in the mouth and we didn’t know how to respond in the moment.

Felt like it highlighted how unathletic our bigs were more than anything else. Ole Miss game exposed it, Houston was built to exploit it and they did.

Beware putting too much stock in a kid who scored a bunch in a low major league, especially on a terrible team. Remember James Daniel?

Also Doug Gottlieb is an AWFUL coach (and person too).

Barnes would likely have to completely re-program him to make him work in the SEC.

And coming off a major injury too? I’d pass

Yea ZZ wasn't the problem In any way shape or form at all. Just need that to be said.

I think he is a tad overrated defensively. He gets steals and makes flashy plays but there were times he got picked on because of size. There was also times he just couldn’t buy a basket.

Don’t want to hate on him at all, he is still a great player but maybe not the best fit at times with the rest of the roster. Needed more offense

Not to mention he's played at 3 different schools in 3 years, and I don't believe he's played a full season yet.
