2025 Transfer Portal Thread

I know. Just think JP and Cade has the higher ceiling. Feel like the two will have great offensive chemistry l.

I think there is a very good chance Felix develops some offensive game. If he can tighten up that little baby hook and develop a shot around the rim (like Nkamhou did), to go with what he already has, he’d be a very good player next year.

Again, I know where Chaz is from, but he still turned down more moneyto be here. Every now and then, even with players that aren't from your state, you can lose the bidding war and still get the player, which was my point. It's rare, but it happens. If it was as simple as "Chaz wanted to be here and was an in state kid" then there wouldn't have been visits with Kentucky and BYU and he would've immediately committed. Obviously, he did want to be here, but not every in state guy is going to turn down a lot more money to be playing in his home state. Jonas Aidoo could've played in NC for less than he's getting at Arkansas. Chaz is a rare breed, which is a good thing for us.
He may have also looked at how Dalton developed under Barnes and wanted some of that. The best NIL money is peanuts to that NBA cash.

Can any of the returning post players turn their back to the basket and score somewhat consistently? I hope so but I’ve yet to see it just mostly lobs or tip ins.

JP is probably the best at it... but Felix and Cade we've really not seen it on a consistent basis, I think both can score on more than lobs or tip ins...but aren't confident enough to really do it.

He’s from Florida, but Miami sucks, FLST sucks and Florida returns Haugh and maybe Condon at the 4

Unless some other teams offers him ridiculous money, which they may not because of the jump form D2 to D1….we could slide in here and snag this kid

So...here is who Florida returns and class they'll be next year (unless they hit the portal)

C Olivier Rioux - SO 7'9"
C Viktor Mikic - SO 6'11"
C Rueben Chinyelu - JR 6'11"
F Thomas Haugh - JR 6'9"
F Alex Condon - JR 6'11"
C Micah Handlogten - SR 7'1"
F Sam Alexis - SR 6'9"

If you're keeping count, that's every single big they have on their roster this year.

Exactly. I was just naming the good players that play the 4 position, but yeah…thank you for proving the rest lol.

Hoping we can snag this one. Love his game

Unrelated, I thought Olivier Rioux at 7'9" was a typo until Google confirmed it. Jeez that's wild.

Condon is getting some 1st round buzz right now. A big NCAAT, and he's likely (fortunately) gone.

D2 to the SEC is a huge leap. I wouldn’t expect Freeman to be close to another Dalton or Chaz.
It is, but the biggest reason to not expect that kind of jump is because DK and Chaz are more the exception to the rule, and that they were both 5th year senior grown men at 22-23 years old. Freeman is just a rising sophomore who is still very physically underdeveloped at 18-19 years old. A legit high-major S&C program will do wonders for him. The talent is there, though.

13 scholarships...we need more than just 4 bigs on that roster next year.

Brown will be a true FR and it's pretty rare a True Freshman big that's rated outside the top 10 is a first year player.
JP is also not 100% healthy and depending on when he is there is still lots of work to get him back to playing shape.

So really you have Felix and Cade going into next year when the team that is likely the best in the SEC this season had 7 bigs on roster and only 2 of them haven't really played this year.

For me an "ideal" roster would have

5 or 6 "bigs" 6'8" or taller
2 or 3 "tweeners" the guys that are around 6'6" but strong (Pons, JJJ, Admiral) who can guard 1-4 and play inside as well as on the outside
4 to 6 "guards" 6'6" or under with a more traditional guard skillset (Gainey, McRae, Chaz, Dalton, etc.)

As of right now

4 "bigs" - Felix, JP, Cade and Brown
1 "tweener" - Evans
1 "guard" - Bishop

So 6 of 13, 7 scholarships open and based on the few names so far mentioned... we're looking at adding another big (Turner, Bynum) and a few tweeners (Freeman, Eaglestaff)

I’m personally not a fan of Turner or Bynum, they seem like another Tucker Anderson, players that don’t contribute much once they go to another school.

I don’t see us getting Eaglestaff, but I’m hoping I’m wrong.

I know where he is from, but he still turned down much more money. Lots of people would turn down their state school for a lot more money. Kentucky offered more and isn't a lot different distance wise from Nashville.
Kentucky getting Koby Brea closed the door on Chaz

Yeah Bynum would be a RS candidate, but if the plan is to backfill a few long term guys to help balance the turnover not a bad option.

I think you're wrong on Turner though. He's already a grown man and plays like a true big. His numbers would be pretty crazy had he been starting/playing as much as he did to end the season all year.

Seems like they had Abasi Etim (6'9" JR) playing and starting ahead of him until he got hurt. Team he was on basically played 4 guards and a big...Turner just didn't really get enough minutes until the last 10-12 games of the year and once he did get the minutes his production was through the roof.

Yes please.
LMU always have good sports programs, especially basketball. I like that he go3s for the dunk with aggressive moves. Has good hops and can handle the ball. He is likely better than any of our bigs on the offensive side of the ball. Have no idea about his defense.
