2025 Transfer Portal Thread

Don’t forget that JJJ came back and didn’t have a spot, they were just going to make up for his tuition in additional NIL

It’s a good point, but you also have to wonder if JJJ’s walk on return had anything to do with Ledlum bailing, ie we could have transfers sign on and then reconsider if ZZ/JM/JG were to later decide to return. But, if we’re being transparent hopefully that helps.

The 5 year thing is not going to go into effect until next years crop of players. It'd be too much chaos to okay it for guys that should be done playing
While I don't disagree with you, it's going to result in certain players suing or a class action. And as we know, the NCAA doesn't win in court.

I don't think guys like Zeigler & Baker-Mazara are going accept missing out on potential earnings because the timing is unfortunate. Will be a fight to the end I imagine one way or another.

Nobody knows that
No but I’d say all signs point to it. The only thing close to official we got from the NCAA is that it wasn’t even on the table at this point. The April 7th hearing will just be one piece of many that has to happen. And the few leaks we’ve heard since January when it first came out was that they likely would want it to take effect for next years group of seniors.

I guess unless you are Osuna lol.

They’ll have to waiting until like September/October to announce it if they are going to avoid getting sued, at that point it’s too late for players to enroll in school and most will have signed pro contracts, making them ineligible.
I would be surprised if the issue isn't forced like the Pavia situation. Just feel like there's going to be enough guys that aren't going to sit back and wait patiently for a potential ruling.

Maybe I don't understand the legal system well enough, but I don't think the NCAA is going to be able to do this on their own terms.

Yeah Gillespie is not gonna fly for less minutes bc of ZZ's presence. He wants to start and honestly I think he should I think ZZ's height has been too much of a barrier for him.
Convinced a lot of you don’t even watch the games. Ziegler was the best all around point guard in the country this year.

I would love to have a stretch 4 who can consistently hit mid range, can occasionally stretch out to 3 and still get to basket. One of my favorite players in this mold is Brakefield from Ole Miss.

Would love a guy like that on our roster. Idk who in the portal fits that style.
how about

I have mixed feelings if ZZ or Mashack decide to return. It would be nice because we know they have been in big games and can play incredible defense, but on the other hand I think it is time to get some new blood in here for something different. Plus, we want that Maryland kid so having ZZ there kinda hurts us in that convo.

Gainey on the other hand I would love to have back. He really matured a lot this season and become a consistent outside threat. Give him a good PG, along with a balanced attack with aggressive bigs on the inside, and we could see another deep run.

I agree. I have loved watching them, but especially with Mashack, it was hard watching the other team back off of him, daring him to shoot.

I think Gainey was that one guy who could break our scoring droughts. That might come in handy next year.

All in all, I think most of us get a little bored watching the same players over and over. ZZ and Mashack have had their chance. Now, let's watch someone else do it.

I'm not saying he wasn't an insanely good point guard for us this season, I'm just saying that he was pretty much the only player who would drive inside the paint besides Gainey and his height did not let that happen. If you watched that Houston game there were many times he'd drive into the paint and get blocked bc they were just too big.

i think we've seen enough times that ZZ at PG will not get us to the Final Four
Having ZZ is fine but he’s gotta have help so teams will actually have to guard his teammates and be a threat to make shots. Several times this season there were times there was at least 3 players on the court that others teams would stay 15 feet away from daring them to shoot while packing the driving lanes full with nowhere to go and dribbling the clock off. Nothing against anyone but facts are facts.

Gillespie is 6’1”, he’s not LeBron. Any of the shots ZZ had blocked by Houston would have been blocked if Gillespie took them too, assuming he’s quick enough to get into the lane to attempt them.

Our problem was never ZZ at point guard. Our problem was being about 2 scoring options shy. We have no inside scoring game and we have only 1 true outside scoring threat. If you are counting on you point guard to be your primary scorer, you should not plan on going far.
This. Was about to post it. We had to rely on ZZ scoring.
