I think a big name player is someone like Latson, a name that’s been established and recognized by most casuals, other big names would be Juju, Hidalgo, Betts, we don’t have any player on that level.

I'm not sure Latson is recognized by most casuals. I don't know that she's at that JuJu, Hidalgo, Betts, Bueckers, Fudd, or Flau'jae level of national recognition. Sure, Latson's probably the best scorer in the portal, but if say, Cooper was in the portal, you could argue she'd be the best defender in the portal. I think it's ridiculous to say that Cooper is not an established player at the college level.

On a positive note, nearly every LV improved their shooting percentages under Kim's system, at least slightly, from their prior year. Probably because the system gives them more open shots. That would bode well for any player she adds.

That's a great point. Looking back, Sam had been coming off of a terrible shooting year at Arkansas, and she had a great shooting year for us. Cooled off a little on 3s towards the end of the year, but maybe some of that was fatigue/losing her legs a bit, which the staff has said they will improve on next year.

Latson this year is known well, all the names aren’t on the same level but they are known. I still find people not even knowing whose on our roster when talking to people, we don’t have any big names as of yet, it might take a few years but let’s see.

Talaysia Cooper was a semifinalist for Defensive Player of the Year after only one full season of college basketball. Made All-SEC defensive team and they believe saying people that they discuss basketball with not knowing her regardless if it’s true or not makes this poster feel they are justified in saying Coop isn’t an established player. Man it’s plenty of professional and college athletes people don’t know by name or have seen play that are some of the best in the sport what does that even mean. I have people in my family that doesn’t have a clue and they watch all types of sports with me from time to time with some of them being athletes themselves lol.

This is true. Most everyone’s 3 % improved by a couple of points. Overall percentage, Zee and Ruby stayed the same from previous year. Spear and Puckett dropped. Spencer, Darby, Latham, and Jill did improve overall. So maybe she raises Robertson up to about 32% from three and 35% overall which would bring her up to Puckett’s shooting this year. The good news is that you’d hope the only place that it could do is go up.

I agree with this and if Hidalgo/Betts level of both skill and attention is the standard there are literally none of those in the portal other than Fulwiley.

Kim is looking at all of this thru a different lens than we are. She's looking for the pieces to make the project work, and I get the impression she likes her core that is coming back and is building around them, not blankety trying to replace them.

I was frequently frustrated continuously last year watching players not have the speed to do this and causing a mess. The player visiting today would at least be an upgrade in that area from most that have left, and her offense could easily improve when no one player on this team will be relied to carry the whole offensive load game in and game out. That's not the plan here for anyone.

That is likely in play for some. It’s an unusual strategy in P4 as we all know. Not every player will be on board with it due to its uniqueness. This is not a negative comment on the system, which may very well prove to be a success with the right roster. It is however a statement that not every player will gravitate to this system.

I see what you're saying, though, she only had two games last year where she shot fewer than 12 FG attempts, and she would not be shooting nearly as much at Tennessee, so the hope is the efficiency would improve. And if she's having a hot shooting night (she shot 40% or better on 3s in about 1/3 of their games last year) then you can play her more.

The old leave her in, take her out chant depending on whether she is hot.

Last summer during the portal and this past fall in the early HS recruiting period the players signed which turned out to be 10 saw this system.. and committed to this system some during the visit after watching it with Coach Caldwell in clips showing how they could fit the style of play. If you think a poster making a silly statement about it being the reason players haven’t been sign via the portal then you all can believe it. It’s not true though. They are recruiting the players they want to add now because that’s who fit the system that’s in the portal. The next time they sign a player people on this forum claim wouldn’t commit to the system after two weeks in the portal window keep the same energy and don’t disappear and act like it didn’t happen.

We need bigs, the top of the SEC is getting better. they also added elite freshman to their roster as well and are adding impact players…

Texas has elite freshman coming in and they are about to add Brea Cunningham.

Brea played at Arizona and her team was a disappointment but her talent is undeniable. Coach Vic won the SEC and got to a final four and is looking for elite impactful transfers to complete his roster…

That’s all we want is to have an elite roster with freshman and the returners to go along with impactful transfers.

I think a lot depends on which games of ours some of these players watched this season. There were some games that anyone could watch and be impressed and think, "That looks intense, but exciting ... and they seem to be having fun." In those games it was clear that the system worked, and everything was great.

But if these portal players missed those games and, instead, caught games like that disastrous Georgia home loss, then the impression they got was Not. Good. At. All. If our worst games -- and we all know those were not a good look for the system -- are being shown to them by anti-LV folks, then, yes, some kids might not be interested in playing within Kim's system.

You just never know what lens these kids are looking at Tennessee through, and to whom they are listening.

Tennessee finished the season ranked in the Top 15 and played in the S16. Everyone saw that. Everyone knows that. I don’t know why anyone was expecting the staff to sign some of these players via the portal.. and I certainly don’t understand how anyone could watch Coach Caldwell latest interview and believe they are struggling to generate interest via the portal.
As I said before, people are going to be talking about irrelevant things for an entire year just to say it out loud because it’s Tennessee.
The players CKC signs are going to be the players she sought and wanted to be in her system.

Tune in to the Nike Hoops Summitt. Team World really doesn’t have a chance of winning it without Deniya Prawl who did not dress to play but is there supporting her team.
I think it’s time to acknowledge Mia Pauldo as the best true PG of the 2025 class.
She makes everyone else around her better. This game for both teams lacks a lot of flow due to missing that one true player that can lead a team with pure leadership ability.
