Good perimeter defense doesn’t cause below 25% shooting, much less 11%. If we shoot 25% from 3 we win that game. This game was worse than TT because we just needed to shoot like we did for TT to winVescovi was blanketed the whole game. And as I mentioned the ZZ open looks were in the low % corner. Chandler and JJJ missed a couple of open ones but let’s not pretend this was like the TTU game where we were wide open almost every shot and just couldn’t hit. Michigan played good perimeter defense and locked down our most important shooter.
We were shooting like 5% at one point in that game on like 35+ shots AND they were mostly great looks.Good perimeter defense doesn’t cause below 25% shooting, much less 11%. 3 PT defense is mostly overrated and the teams that are best at it in the first half end up being one of the worst in the second half. If you get 3s off and aren’t completely blanketed /getting blocked then it’s not usually that the defense was that good, just variance wasn’t on your side.

You guys want to chalk it up to players just not making shots (I’m guessing in defense of Barnes as motivation more than anything), but everyone saw the Michigan game plan. Take out Vescovi and they did. Other guys have been hit and miss all season so it wasn’t shocking to see guys like JJJ and Chandler go cold from 3.
IIRC Vescovi got 1 open 3 and missed. The one he hit was really deep and contented. Was surprised he made that one.
Says the guy who just can’t give Howard and Michigan any credit for having a better game plan. LOL.
Last one….they had a relative role player shoot 100% in the 2nd half and score over 20 points. We missed open 3s and made 11% and basically lost by 4….not counting the 4 FTs when the game was decided. Yea….I’ll stick with my original assessment. If we shoot a paltry 20% from 3 we win. And it wasn’t game planning that beat us. Our top 4 shooters took every 3 point shot. Vescovi did get some open looks but he was off. Yes they guarded him well for the most part.
Funny you talk about their guard going off (not a role player fyi) but you don’t mention the fact their best 3 point shooter (an actual role player) in Houstan was terrible offensively and scored 0.Last one….they had a relative role player shoot 100% in the 2nd half and score over 20 points. Three point defense can be more effective when the big are missing layups and not getting offensive rebounds. When you shoot 21% for a game, the odds are you will not win the ballgame.Good perimeter defense doesn’t cause below 25% shooting, much less 11%. If we shoot 25% from 3 we win that game. and back to Julian Phillips... please
Tennessee apparently feels really good about their chances and the hope is that he makes a decision this week. The sooner he does, the better our chances. The longer it goes, the more he is looking for a reason to go elsewhere.I may be wrong but I think Auburn is going harder after LSU decommit 6'8" SF Devin Ree per ON3. Looks like he will choose between Auburn and Louisville. Maybe Auburn has moved on from Phillips. Ree is supposed to be one of the most elite shooters in the 2022 class and Auburn struggled from 3 last season. They are also looking for a Center to replace Kessler as Trahore will slide in Smith's position per ON3. I think we may actually have a realistic chance of getting Julian Phillips.
