'22 SC SF Julian Phillips (Tennessee commit)

Five star Julian Phillips, who visited Tennessee two weeks ago, is set to announce his commitment this afternoon at 4 p.m. Phillips’ four finalists are Florida State, LSU, USC and Tennessee.

Tennessee was late to this party, not offering until July, but made a strong impression and were one of only two schools to get him on campus this fall (USC being the other).

Head coach Rick Barnes had a lengthy zoom call with Phillips on Tuesday night, so the Vols were still in it at that point if Phillips was willing to spend the time on that.

Despite Tennessee’s efforts we’ve heard some buzz this week that suggests LSU and Florida State have pulled ahead and that the decision is going to come down to those two programs. Stay tuned.

That final two of FSU and LSU is so weird. You have Wade vs. Hamilton and the difference between the two is so huge that it just seems strange that these two schools would be the final two. By the way, this is not a knock on your post. i understand you’re reporting someone else’s opinions.

Why so strange? FSU/Hamilton have been known to not be scared off by a little shady recruiting if needed.

I’m aware of the Kentucky incident years ago, but not aware of anything else that is noteworthy. I have no way of knowing otherwise, but I’m not sure you could say Hamilton and Wade are even in the same ballpark as far as indiscretions are concerned.

I’m not saying they are on the same level, just that Hamilton has been known among circles to partake in some shadiness if needed.

How remote are the chances he picks Tennessee? Should we have any reason to tune in at 4:00? Or is it assuredly one of FSU/LSU even if it's completely unknown which of those two it will be?

I’ve been totally surprised before, but anytime a kid is considering LSU, that holds a lot of weight, and I think you know what I mean.

I think it’s worth tuning into, I would say 10% chance…no side feels “confident”.

It is definitely worth seeing where he ends up. If he goes to FSU, then we should feel really good about our chances with Dillon Mitchell
