I’m a little surprised by the offer regardless of Wallace just because of the fact we have Zeigler and Edwards for the next 4 years it would appear. Can never have enough good guards so I’m not complaining, but Wallace was the only guy really at that position we are/have been pushing hard for, supposedly the staff wouldn’t even assure JHS he’d play PG, but now they go offer a PG.

Watching some of the kids highlights. Looks like he played on an AAU team with JHS.

I like this kids game and he's a well built combo guard. I think he'd have a great career here and really blossom after a few years potentially. Better athlete than I expected too. Very balanced in attacking, similar style to Springer from what I saw. Two footed jumping in the pain (not my favorite but can be successful if you get in the pain well). Smooth/fluid looking jumper too. Doesn't look overly explosive but well rounded from an overall athleticism standpoint. At least D1-level and with some work on his body I imagine that will improve a good bit.

Also, seeing as he listed a Top 10 at the beginning of this month, I struggle to see how we gain traction to have a play here unless there's relationships and info I'm unaware of.

Eh, that’s pretty common for guys to release a list that big but still welcome other schools. If he was down to 3-4 schools it would probably be a little different.

I thought they just wouldn’t promise him he would start?

Edit: JHS

The other big development is Tennessee offering Memphis combo guard Chandler Jackson. The Vols saw Jackson this summer and were actively recruiting him since then but hadn’t offered. A visit to Memphis last week to see Jackson play again apparently changed the staff’s mind.

The Vols asked Chandler if it was too late for them to offer and get in the mix and were told that he was interested. It says a lot about Tennessee’s program that they can wait until almost October to offer a player who is headed to Kansas this weekend for an official visit. Jackson is also looking at Texas and Virginia Tech.

A Tennessee assistant was in to see Jackson at Christian Brothers High School on Thursday. Barnes will be in next week. He was scheduled to go on Thursday but as noted above flight issues kept him in Knoxville.

Jackson will make an official visit to Tennessee the weekend of the Ole Miss game. B.J. Edwards will also be on his official visit that weekend.

Some video of him on YouTube matching up with BMaze Elite, this summer. BJ Edwards appeared to guard him a bit.

Jackson has a little bit of Ramar Smith to his game (hopefully basketball only 😬). A little thick for a guard. Not a tremendous ball-handler. Listed as a CG on 247 and PG on Rivals. I don't see much PG in his future unless he gets much quicker. Shoots the ball from all levels at a decent rate. He's a willing defender, too. He looks like a poor man's version of Cason Wallace, which is perhaps ironic.

I thought Armani Moore

He's built a lot like Armani. Probably an inch or two shorter. Shoots it much better than AM, too. Armani was listed as a PG, too, but was clearly never an SEC-level player at that position.

I should have clarified. I was mostly talking about the way he is built!

On Wednesday afternoon Barnes and assistant coach Rod Clark flew to Memphis to visit with recently offered guard Chandler Jackson at Christian Brothers High School. Jackson will officially visit Knoxville next weekend along with commitment B.J. Edwards.

Tennessee drug their feet on the offer here, but they have been in steady contact with Jackson since the July evaluation period, keeping the lines of communication open. The staff was very up front that they were interested in him but were pursuing other targets and that they weren’t going to extend him a meaningless offer if they didn’t feel like they were prepared to take a commitment from him.

Reports we’ve heard suggest that Jackson appreciated the honesty and isn’t resentful about the late offer and is giving Tennessee a chance.

Tennessee is set to host a couple of official visitors this weekend in Memphis guard Chandler Jackson and commitment B.J. Edwards.

Bringing them in together is a nice touch from the staff in trying to sell Jackson on the duo forming partnership in the backcourt. He’s previously visited Kansas, Auburn, Virginia Tech and Auburn.
