'22 TX CG Cason Wallace

UK is about to land #1 player Shaedon Sharpe tonight who’s a SG, they already have PG Skyy Clarke committed and they are trending for #1 SF Chris Livingston…

PG: Wheeler & Washington both will have eligibility add Clarke
SG: Frederick & Allen both will have eligibility add Sharpe
SF: Brooks, Toppin & Hopkins will have eligibility add Livingston

I don’t think Wallace is “scared” by anyone, but perhaps he looks at what UK “could” return along with what’s incoming and opts for a more likely path to 30mpg. Add in that we are also looking to add his AAU teammate and nearby friend in KyeRon Lindsay and maybe it’s enough?

Maybe I’m just feeling a little too optimistic today? Lol
I have to think that is the angle Tennessee is selling him on.

Admittedly, this is surface deep analysis, but it appears one staff feels confident while the other two are throwing all efforts at Mr. Wallace.
I’ll take the opposite angle here, Wallace is crake cut no doubt about it priority #1 on the board for Tennessee and isn’t for Kentucky…he may be 1B or 1C, but their staff is spread across the country seeing Dereck Lively, Skyy Clarke and Chris Livingston…so can only send 1 coach.

I understand that, but it sounds like rationalization, to me. You say that as if Tennessee doesn't have other targets they could be attending to, but UK does. And I fully agree that Wallace is seemingly more of a priority for Tennessee, and always has been, but why is UK sending someone to see Skyy Clarke? He isn't going anywhere, and if he does, they have other options.

Probably the best explanation is that UK knows that Wallace loves UK and the opportunity. They also know they don't have to convince him of anything by sending their entire staff. He may not go to UK, but I don't think it will be because they didn't show him enough attention. They've barely shown him any to this point, and he is still in love with the idea of playing for them. UK is either confident or indifferent. Tennessee seems like a school pulling out all the stops. Hopefully it makes a difference in the end, but I just don't love the idea that we are fighting tooth and nail with a school like UK that isn't trying nearly as hard, and are seemingly, at best, neck and neck with them.

UK is definitely trying to sign more in the fall class than Tennessee is, and if you don’t send anyone to see Clarke who’s known a bit as “needing attention” you’re probably risking upsetting someone their staff does want. It certainly seems a legitimate possibility that the Top 2 targets for Tennessee are Wallace and Lindsay, and guess what, full staff was front and center for both today.

If UK pulled out all the stops and sent the full staff to see Wallace on Day 1 they are sending a message to the rest of their targets/commits that Wallace is more important to them…that’s clearly not a message they’re trying to send? Are you suggesting Livingston has the same feelings towards UK because they’re only sending 1 coach? What about Lively? All of those guys are getting 1 coach it appears, UK sent Jai Lucas because he’s the one with ties to Wallace from Texas.

I guess we are saying the same thing, but I think the fact that UK knows they don't have to focus all their attention, and instead can spread it thin, unlike Tennessee, projects one of two things: confidence or indifference. They are either confident that they don't need to focus their attention on him, or they are indifferent as to whether he chooses them, or not. I don't think it's the latter of those two options.

As for Skyy Clark, he moved to Nashville to be more regionally located to UK (allegedly), he committed there quickly, and he is recovering from a torn ACL. Not a ton of leverage for him to be pouting about attention. He isn't going anywhere, and it's more likely (and was loosely rumored after the injury) that UK would drop him before he'd drop UK.

If that’s your take then it means you feel the same way about UK and Chris Livingston and Dereck Lively, and I definitely do not think that’s the case at all. Their options were 1. Send nobody. 2. Send 1 person to all their top targets. 3. Send everyone to Wallace and ignore their other top targets. To me they went with what was most likely and what would make the most sense.

Tennessee doesn’t have 4-5 guys they are focused on the same and trying to add in the fall, Kentucky does.

UK folks have said there was zero truth to that, there was some talk of him and the pro leagues though and maybe that is his leverage?

I don’t think it really matters if we’re far in the lead or trailing UK, we were always going to project strength and send a full stuff to see Wallace, because he is our top target. UK was always going to go the fewer staff route because they’ve been slow playing Wallace from the start so why change you’re strategy when you know you don’t have to?

RICHARDSON, Texas – The gymnasium of Richardson (Texas) High was filled with high major coaches this morning to see Cason Wallace. The five-star guard recently cut his list down to four schools last week and the majority of those programs were well represented in the Eagles early morning workout.

Jai Lucas of Kentucky, Rick Barnes and the full staff of Tennessee, and Chris Beard and the full staff of Texas were all into see Wallace in action. The 6-foot-4 elite two-way guard recently completed official visits to Kentucky and Texas. He additionally has his second official visit to Tennessee scheduled for September 17th.

After his workout, Wallace recapped his fall official visits and previewed his second Knoxville visit with 247Sports:
Kentucky: "Being out there on my visit, it was a nice vibe. Everybody on their coaching staff kept it real with me the whole time. I really liked everybody. They just want me to be a dog and be myself. John Calipari says he only recruits dogs so I think I am one of those and I like that."

Tennessee: "I like their campus. It is pretty different from being in Dallas. But I like the way the team and the coaching staff is all together. They are a very family-oriented program and I think that is why I feel I would fit there."

Texas: "It was a good experience going out there to a city that I am used to. It was really exciting and fun to see all the fans and the love they had for me. The staff sees me as the guy out there. They want me to step in and be the face of the program, so I like that."

Wallace plans to announce his decision on November 7. When asked what factors will go into his choice, he says, "I want to go to the school where I fit best. I am looking at the pros and cons of each program and whichever school I choose, I know my family will be there to support me. With that being said, I do not really think that there is a wrong decision"

Probably reading too much into the bolded, but…

Probably reading too much into the bolded, but…
Perhaps a Freudian slip on his part...hopefully.

In the end, we just have to hope that "fit", relationships, team need, and prioritization win out over the flash and flair of UK. We certainly offer a clearer path to immediate heavy playing time, we have prioritized him, and he has the deepest and longest relationship with our staff.

Adem Bona as well…

So their staff went and saw Clarke, Wallace, Livingston, Lively and Bona today…each player getting a singular coach, so does that mean UK feels the same about each of those goes as far as a confidence/indifference goes? Not imo.

My point being that Tennessee didn't feel so confident that they split up their staff in a similar manner. They didn't send one to see Wallace, one to see Dillon Mitchell, one to see Julian Phillips, one to see Udeh, and one to see BJ Edwards. Why did Tennessee focus all of their resources on Wallace? He isn't the only kid they are hoping to land in the fall, or are you saying Mitchell, Phillips and Udeh are all spring guys or just unlikely to come to Tennessee?

I think UK has about 4-5 priority guys, Wallace being 1 of them, but none of those guys really above the others. I think Tennessee has 1 guy at the very top of their board and that’s Wallace, and they showed that by being there to see him. Worked well that they could do that and then also see Lindsay at the same time.

Mitchell has been said to be an incredible long shot, so unless something has changed there then I don’t see it. Udeh has said he’s likely a spring guy. Phillips is a guy they’re just trying to convince to come take an OV first.

And yes, I think there’s a very good possibility that Tennessee would be very happy to sign just Edwards, Wallace & Lindsay in the fall.
