'22 TX CG Cason Wallace

What I hope it means is that they were trying to get him to shut it down and cancel the Tennessee visit. And it would be nice to know if that was Cal's home visit, or just a visit to the school, which he can do as much as he wants (IIRC). I presume it was a school visit. If Wallace follows thru with the official visit, this weekend, I suspect we still have a puncher's chance. If he doesn't, we're done.
I may be wrong but on a school visit a coach can only say hello, just in passing.

Tennessee is the only school that hosted Wallace on two official visits.

He said he needed to get back to Knoxville to see what it was like during the school year.

“Last time I came during the summer,” Wallace said, “so it was a little different this time.”

A little different of a visit, but he left with the same takeaways.

“I really love the people,” Wallace said, “love the coaches and the players.”

After the latest 247Sports rankings update, the 6-foot-4, 185-pound two-way guard is the No. 7 overall player in the 247Sports ratings and the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. He’s the No. 1 player in the state of Texas and the No. 2 combo guard in the 2022 class.

Tennessee was in to see Wallace on Thursday in his hometown of Richardson, Texas, before he arrived in Knoxville on Friday afternoon. Rick Barnes and his entire coaching staff were in Texas to see Wallace on September 9 morning, as soon as the active recruiting period opened.

Wallace said he hasn’t made his decision and he’s still going through the process.

“Making pros and cons about every school that I’ve been to,” Wallace said. “Not trying to overlook anybody.”

Wallace ran through some of the pros on Sunday.

“Coach (Chris) Beard, I enjoyed watching him at Tech so I thought I would give him a chance at Texas,” he said. “Kentucky is a school that I’ve been liking for a while. They have a good track record.”

“Coach Barnes is just a cool guy,” Wallace added. “He’s very energetic and I love the way he cares about the players.”

Wallace said he’ll be leaning on his family while he continues through the decision-making process.

“(It’s) not tough,” he said. “I have a lot of good schools to choose from.”

Until further notice, November 7 is the date. A date set because it’s his birthday.

“So I’m going to have a party,” Wallace said.

If he holds off until November on the surface I would feel better…

-prior to UK offering Wallace UK folks said if they offered him the was theirs, they offer 7/24

-they said they had the momentum and wouldn’t be shocked if he committed on his OV, that was 8/25

-after his visit they said they expected an announcement from him soon and he likely wouldn’t take any other visits, he then visited Texas, Tennessee and has plans to visit UTSA

-they said his November commitment date likely doesn’t hold and he would be committing soon, he tells 2 different Tennessee interviews he will wait until November

Maybe UK ultimately lands him, none of this means they won’t, but it definitely makes me question just how “connected” they are to legitimate info in this recruitment? They’ve been wrong multiple times and just makes me question if most of their opinions are formed simply off the fact “they are UK” and this is Tennessee.

I don't want this to go until Nov 7th. Feel like that's too long of a time to think without emotions getting into it. And emotions could swing multiple times in a month and a half period.

Like I've been saying, UK folks think they can/will land anyone they want, even the ones "in the know". And to be fair, they typically do land a lot of who they want. But I wouldn't just take their word for it.

I still am not totally convinced they don't land him, but the further removed we get from his UK visit, the better I feel. I also wonder if it's fair to think UK might get tired of waiting and ramp things back up with Nick Smith, whose visit they delayed.

The visit got canceled. He isn't going back up there at a later time

I know he isn't, right now. If UK feels like momentum with Wallace is slipping, though, I won't be shocked to see them try and get it rescheduled. Recruiting is fluid.
I don’t think it’ll happen…that’s multiple times they’ve “slow played” Smith and he let it be known he wasn’t interested. Some kids don’t mind because it’s UK, but he’s not one of those.

Yeah, I get that. Just curious what happens if UK calls him today and tries to set up an OV with him. Kids are fickle.

I think he tells them to F off…like I said it’s happened more than once with him and he’s a kid who the first time made it a point to mention he wanted to be prioritized.

I'm feeling most "meh" about this recruitment. It's definitely a good sign he has held off on making any rash decisions after the UK visit, but I'm not getting the same positive vibes from these two updates post-visit that I was hoping for.

His responses seem rather muted, but this also might just be some residual pessimism from UK becoming such a major factor in the past 8 weeks. I guess we'll just have to wait and see on this one. Not entirely sure how to feel.

UK is so arrogant. I think the Vols land this guy.

Maybe so, but like I said, kids are fickle. Having a school like UK back begging for your attention has a way of changing a kid's mind.

All kids aren’t though, Smith is one that isn’t, and I applaud him for that. It was mentioned from UK folks that he was already sour on UK for waiting to offer and that there was a good chance UK wasn’t going to be able to make that up, and Smith pretty much said as much himself. I highly doubt UK pulling the same stunt AGAIN, this time even more so arguable would all of a sudden cause him to crawl to Lexington.

That’s exactly it.

Barnes is a truth-teller. Calipari isn’t. A lot of kids perceive the difference. Some don‘t, and then you see a lot of disgruntled kids.

I think UK getting impatient, and potentially taking someone else, is one of the best reasons for him to wait. I don't know that much about UK's current situation, but overall, I think that is a good tactic, assuming we have any control of that.

Didn’t we try to get involved in Smith’s recruitment? I guess we were too late to the party? It sure would be nice to be able to get in late on a recruitment and still get serious consideration. I predict Smith goes to Arkansas. Not too bold of a prediction, but that’s where I thought he would end up all along.

I think the SEC is about to land several of the 5 star, top players in the country. There are 28 5 star players, per 247, and the SEC could land 11 of them:

#1 - Shaedon Sharpe to Kentucky
#6 - Chris Livingston to Kentucky
#9 - Nick Smith to Arkansas
#11 - Brandon Miller to Alabama
#13 - Jarace Walker to Alabama
#17 - Skyy Clark to Kentucky
#19 - Adem Bona to Kentucky
#25 - Anthony Black possibly to Arkansas (leaning towards Oklahoma State though)
#26 - Malik Reneau to Florida
#27 - Jordan Walsh to Arkansas
#28 - Dillon Mitchell to Tennessee

If this happened, then the following SEC schools would land 5 star players:

Kentucky - 4
Arkansas - 3
Alabama - 2
Florida - 1
Tennessee - 1
