Tennessee made its case to five-star guard
Cason Wallace and his family last weekend on his official visit. Now the Vols have to sit back and wait for over a month to find out his decision (at least publicly).
The visit went as well as it could go from what we’ve heard and there’s a real sense of familiarity between Wallace, his parents and the Tennessee coaching staff.
It definitely feels like this is a Tennessee/Kentucky battle and it’s a dogfight. I don’t share the belief that’s out there in some circles that this one is a done deal for Kentucky. He may well end up in Lexington but I don’t think that decision has been made.
As I wrote last week, having met this family twice now they definitely don’t strike me as the kind of people that would waste a coaching staff’s time if a decision had been made.
They wouldn’t take three airplane tickets, two nights of lodging and tons of free food from a program to make a pointless official visit. Similarly, in my opinion, they wouldn’t let Tennessee spend thousands of dollars every week to fly to Dallas to make a visit to watch Wallace practice.
Speaking of the visits, Rick Barnes along with at least one assistant, has been in to see Wallace each of the last three weeks. The first week of the live period Kentucky only sent an assistant. The second week Calipari did take the trouble to go. I don’t know about this week. But Barnes’ actions have probably let Wallace know what kind of priority he is for Tennessee.
