This can't be happening. Hartless and Booger hired the head coach that then hired the best coaching staff in America. They will somehow move past the 5 SEC teams in the top 10 and bring us the type of players we need to win it all.

Right.

They cheat

How long we going to go with that? I don't think they have to cheat. Saban just calls the ones he wants and tells them " OK, you can come here, we will let you in". He ends up with 20-25 4-5* and that's what they go with.

This skill was learned from the best in the business.....Bear Bryant. The way he recruited.......threw his feet upon the desk, picked up the phone, called a recruit and told him you can come here if you want, get back in touch. Have a good day. Winning causes things like this. We should try it someday.

They didn't have scholarship limits the majority of the time when Bryant coached, if at all. Probably not the same.

Genius. "Hartless and Booger" - that's a dynamic duo. Sounds like a videogame from the old Sega system.

Under-rated post IMHO.

This...the great Nebraska teams of the 90's under Osborne were the same. Prop something or other I think.

Oh who needs stars..... according to half the threads on volnation.. we would rather have all those 3 stars n coachem up.. that's why saban only recruits 3 stars.. oh wait... for some reason he likes 4 and 5 stars.... no way he can evaluate talent better than the best staff in America...lol

How do you plan on getting them to come here? All we heard from Dooley and Kiffin were the facilities needed upgraded. Well guess what they are now possibly the best in the nation. Although the 4 and 5 stars are still laying off UT. HMM that would make me think they were unsure on the coaching changes. Also they were not wanting to come to a suck *ss team. Unfortunately thats what we have had the past few years. I would not let this years recruiting fool you on the new staff. I have a feeling that when we win a few of the games we shouldn't that we will become relevant again. Kids want to go to a place where # 1 they will start. #2 they will win.

Bryant was also one if the last to integrate. Jim crowe arrangements between southern teams and the rest of the country make it impossible to look to the past for an accurate assessment of recruiting, W/L records, nat'l champs, etc. Did you know lsu didnt play a non-southern school with black players until 1970? Did u know that lsu and uga were the last schools to integrate.....in 1972? Bear was no great recruiter....he was a bigot who saw the writing on the wall with a 5-6 record and schools like usc with black players kicking ass. This is a good article.... Read his biography...in his best years he would pick up the best recruits in TN and stow them away in a hotel until after signing day...just to keep them away from the Vols..the man was ruthless...so he worked a little harder than you intimated

Tells me, UT should have spent more money on hiring the best coaches instead of building the best facilities.

Coaching is everything in NCAA football. The same teams win every year because of coaching. Kids want to go where they will play early, play on TV, play for national championships, but most importantly play for a coach that will prepare them for the NFL.

Not a Bryant apologist but the USC game that Alabama got waxed in behind the running of Sam Cunningham was scheduled by the Bear to convince the university powers to be that if they wanted big wins they had to integrate...he had to fight the big institution for years and I've never read anything credible by associates that colored him racist

We didn't go after the homerun though. So what do you do at this point? You have to coach up to get some wins and pull those kids to you. So thanks to all the idiots blasting the 3*'s that we are getting. I am sure while getting blasted by their own fans on how they dont have enough stars they are going to put that extra % in there to give their all.

I don't know what people expect. CBJ was not going to come in here and bring in a top ten class his first year. The only way to have an immediate impact in recruiting is to bring in a Saban, Meyer, Gruden type coach. Winning is about the money these days. It is very similar to professional sports, particularly baseball where your larger market, richer teams win more consistently. Sure there are anomalies but the money usually rules the day. Now in college sports, you obviously can't spend the money on players (unless you are Auburn or Clemson), so you spend it on the coach and staff. CBJ may turn out to be a fabulous hire but it will not happen overnight. A top 15 class nationally will be middle of the pack in the SEC.

Henry & Bell could really make a difference! Forget what we look like in rankings we need results on the field.
