Tonight made it clear what The plan should be for 2020/2021 at the PG position.

James and Springer are clearly the future of the PG imo.

SV is a tough hard nosed winning player and I am damn glad he’s on our team but it’s painfully obvious he doesn’t have the skill
Set for us to be an elite team. He will be a very very good SG for us next year.

James has gotten a lot of criticism and some of it has been fair but him running the point for us tonight was key. We don’t win that game without James running the show down the stretch.

Victor Bailey will have a say in the PG competition next season.

Why when a guy has an off game does VN have to talk trash anout him??

SV came into a situation as a true freshman that most couldn't handle...

He will play alot next year and most likely start...
RAG on a 4 year player not a freshman with 3 months state side..
Pathetic!!!

Did you read the op?

If not I’ll post the part you need to read again here.

Fascinating to see how much better we were when JJJ turned it on in the 2nd half.....like a completely different team. He did it all on both ends and ran the transition offense. Amazing to see the difference it made. Have to believe he has not been 100 percent most of the year.
JJJ is so much better when he is in attack mode. When he is aggressive he looks really good. Vescovi is still adjusting to the size of sec players, and he is still not in great shape. I think they will both improve a ton with a year in the system, and conditioning program under their belts. That being said we might just play well enough to sneak into the tournament this year.

You do realize Vescovi was in the game too but they tried to give him some relief with the ball in his hand? Even when Bone was in the game there were times someone had to ball for rest.

I didn't see it before but these posts from the same 5 or 6 folks remind me of "Barnes can't recruit", "he just came here to retire", "he is robbing us", etc. It's become so laughable that I can't take these axe to grind posts seriously.

yea just like I said last night was a foreshadowing for next year as SV was the SG much of the Game. He is just way to slow getting us into any kind of offense in the 30sec shot clock. As I said he has a lot of great characteristics but he’s just too slow to get us into a flow to be our PG and Barnes had to go away from that very quickly last night.

I predict the only change to the starting lineup next year will be Springer taking Bowden's spot. We will have interchangeable ball handlers with Vescovi, Springer and James. Johnson will be six man based on the current roster.

May very well be true but SV won’t be the PG

JJJ had a great game, Santi did not. Part of the reason is just because of the size of Kentucky. It had less of an effect on James because he's actually bigger than any of their guards, Santi was just overwhelmed and it was obvious. He did end up making some really key plays down the stretch to make up for the rest of the game. We need James to continue to be aggressive though, as we aren't good enough for him to go into his passive mode.

I really don’t think he will play much of a role. I think in hindsight the staff wouldn’t have recruited him. Jmo

Curious to see why you think they should not have recruited him? From all the talks that has been implied about him, coaching staff, TOS etc.. It seems to be that they like him very much at the PG position.

Since we took him as a transfer we have gotten commitments from Johnson, springer and SV. I don’t think Barnes expected to get three guards of that quality.

I have heard very little about him fwiw

Wow. I think James has horrible handles and for the last month Idk why Barnes lets him bring it up so much. Auburn and Florida both exposed him. Had it knocked out his hands late tonight but did recover. Give me Vescovi any day bringing the ball up

Have you ever tried to move laterally while staying low with a groin injury? It's virtually impossible to move as you expect to. I believe that's been a lot of his issues in that regard of having it "knocked out his hands" so much. He couldn't move like he wants without the ball, let alone with the ball. 2nd Half vs. KY showed how he can move with the ball when he feels good.

Just going off what TOS has said that the coaching staff is pushing really hard for Bailey to run this team at point next year. Now I am not slighting the pick-ups of Springer, Vescovi, and having the emergence of James at the point. I just think that we don't need to write off Bailey at the point, which I think will make it more of a competition than what people might think. Also I do not think that he came here to just ride the bench as a limited used reserve.

Good post. I can buy all that

Idk why people want to rush to make definitive claims...Vescovi has yet to have a season of off season workouts, hasn’t had the 1-1 time they get during summer, to assume that he won’t continue to improve as a PG seems a bit foolish.

that’s simply

His quickness and speed even with a year of S&C isn’t going to let him all of a sudden be better than the other guys we have as options at PG

I don’t think it’s that simple...for starters you’ve yet to see Springer or Bailey, so that means you are solely assuming James gets 30+ minutes at PG next year...that’s a big assumption.

This is VN. Outrageous claims for message board street cred...normally bruinvol has great takes buy here must agree to disagree...as long as SV gain confidence in his right hand. He will be the primary ball handler

I’ve seen Springer a number of times on the tube and his skill set is off the charts Better then SV at PG. James is as well and when he get healthy watch out

We have seen guards struggle under Barnes, especially early...I wouldn’t be shocked if Springer plays more off ball early given the fact Barnes will have 3 other guards with more experience running the point under him.
