3* teams versus 5* one and dones

What I'm saying is that both Williams and Schofield had great self discipline to get their bodies in shape for the next level. Do you think it was coaching or self discipline that had them in the gym shooting before the coaching staff was even out of bed?
Grant Williams, himself, will tell you that Barnes was the motivator that had GW in the gym getting in shape as a freshman.

And Admiral Schofield also needed a kick in the pants during and after his freshman season. He was suspended for a few games (unofficially, I believe) and credits Barnes with coaching him hard and helping to develop his shot. Same for Kevin Punter.

Sure, all of those guys put in the work, but only after being challenged by Barnes, and held accountable for putting in the work. Development is often a 2-way street. Few and far between are the kids who solely develop themselves into superstar players thru hard work and discipline without a little motivation and push from their coaches.

Barnes can’t go into the gym and supervise their every movement. He can’t hold their hands as they put up 1000 jumpers a day. I can’t believe you really think Barnes and the staff had nothing to do with their development.

Outside of Chandler, pretty much every contributor on this team is a multi-year type of player, so I’m not exactly seeing the comparison. We’re laden with upperclassmen.

JJJ (Junior)
Santi (Junior)
Olivia (Junior)
Fulky (Super Senior)
Uros (Junior)
Bailey (Senior)

That’s six of our nine main rotation guys who are upperclassmen. And, then we have two guys in Powell and ZZ who are underclassmen and are definitely no threats to leaving soon.

I don’t think this is a case of Barnes using the “Kentucky” model. If it’s chemistry issues, it’s not because of the one-and-dones. It’s because we lack a true vocal leader on this court. Grant and Admiral were constantly commanding the court and being outspoken. Their personalities were a huge factor in our success. Fulky has been really quiet the past few years, and JJJ’s leadership style is a bit quieter and more reserved.

I don’t think the issue is 5* players. It’s that we have never been able to replicate the much needed leadership from our upperclassmen that Grant, Admiral, and even LaMonte would show each game.

bama seems to be having similar issues,
so-called best backcourt in NCAA with little leadership
definitely not the hard-hat blue-collar types with chemistry

I didn’t dispute that, you said Admiral didn’t sign under Tyndall, and that’s 100% false. The end

Good for you. Then I basically said that that stage is meaningless after coaching changes. The point of the entire discussion, that you’ve totally ignored, is that Barnes also recruited Admiral. He did.

Cool, never said he didn’t, just that he signed under Tyndall, which he did

Good for you. You get a gold star. But do you have anything to say about the original point that Barnes recruited Admiral as well as ButterBean or are you going to remain focused on your bizarre obsession with the off tangent stuff?

'OAD Cal' was on the ropes at KY but the free transfer/NIL legislation was his saving grace. KY and other blue bloods now have their pick of run-of-the-mill teams best players, same as the elite football programs. Tshiebwe, Grady, and Wheeler -top talent already seasoned - mmmboy. Any doubt Cal will match that kind of haul next season? And the next?

Unfettered free-agency means the rich will only get richer. Yay.

Admiral was a Donnie Tyndall recruit.

Yes, but Williams, Bone, Bowden, etc. were all Barnes recruits. If we're not giving Barnes credit for developing them because they have inner drive (a moronic concept), then he gets credit for obtaining players with inner drive. Not one of those guys was pursued by the big time programs, though. So it wasn't just luck.
