35% of Crowd in Columbus Vols fans. That’s insane!

I have a great friend in Columbus, I asked him about tickets and he offered his pair for $10k. Evidently many OSU fans do not care to go to the game and are trying to make a payday off the game tickets. First, that is a great thing for Vols fans that want to travel. Secondly, that tells me even they feel OSU may get ran out of the stadium by a great Vols team featuring a three headed monster run game. I can't wait! Go Vols!!!

Your friend offered you his tickets for $10K or he has them listed for $10K? Haha

I don't really know what to expect regarding attendance. I have been going to games at The Shoe for decades. The most I have seen in terms of visitor attendance has always been the games against Michigan. Even then, the stadium is never blanketed with visiting fans. But we have never had a post-season home game like this so I won't be surprised to see a very substantial attendance by visiting Vols fans. It's not a long drive and Vols fans seem a lot more fired up about attending the game than fans here.

The straight scoop on the attitude here is that outside of season ticket holders and the more rabid fans, there are just not not a whole lot of people super-excited at the moment. A wave of negative pessimism has set in. That will likely change as gameday approaches. But there is a lot of general skepticism following the meltdown against Michigan. The pre-season expectations were extremely high and the loss really took a lot of wind out of the sails of the average fan. A lot of people are still trying to understand how Day could blow yet another big game in such an inexplicable fashion. So the attitude is, 'Here we go again. What's he going to do next?' I am looking forward to the game and won't miss it. But a lot of other fans are not as fired-up to attend and are content with watching it on TV.

This makes sense. The main programs in the B1G for a long time have been Michigan and Ohio State. Everyone else seems to be in their shadow. Penn State and Nebraska have a decent following too but Penn State seems to be a step below both and really hasn't even won the B1G in some time. Nebraska is struggling to even have winning seasons these days. Not sure how the 4 West Coast teams will shake things up in the long run but USC definitely doesn't seem to be a threat at the moment.

It is telling that a team not named Michigan or Ohio State has NOT won a National Title in Football since Michigan State in 1966. (I know Penn State, Nebraska, USC, and Washington have some since then but they weren't in the B1G at the time).

The reasoning above is why I don't think Notre Dame wants to join the B1G. If they joined it, I think they would turn into another Penn State/Nebraska situation and just be in the shadow of Michigan and Ohio State.

Ohio State may have the biggest fan following in all of college football so it would be crazy if Tennessee gets a sizable allotment of the tickets.

I am assuming classes are over at OSU by the 21st, do you know if the school is keeping dorms open? The lack of students potentially opens another block of tickets for visiting fans.
This week is the end of finals. According to the OSU housing site, the residence halls actually close today at 2 p.m. A very small number of residence halls remain open but most are closed. Student areas will look like a ghost town next week. I really don't know how many students will come back for the game. I guess it depends on how far away they have to travel.

I have seen online where alot of fans are traveling to a game and show up and show out (LSU game 2022). Also seen on social media the same thing and it not happen at all (Ugga 2023). So not really sure what to believe when it comes to social media. I would think it would be about 15,000 fans BUT I hope I am wrong...BIGGLY
Well, the UGA game in 2023 was in Neyland. So that probably explains why Tennessee fans didn’t show up in Athens that year

As a local, I would advise to ignore forecasts until next Thursday. As I mentioned in another post, the forecast is probably going to change many times before gameday. Ohio weather is notoriously volatile in December. Just a couple days ago, people were posting the forecast showing mid 20's and snow. Sunday, the forecast might be 50's and thunderstorms, then the next day there might be a winter storm warning for the weekend of the 21st.

If you want a realistic guestimate, it's probably going to be something in the 30's with overcast skies.
Sounds like east Tennessee this winter.

I live in Columbus (and yes I’m going to the game) and there seems to be very little excitement around this game here locally. Ever since OSU lost to Michigan the fans up here are flooding the radio shows talking as if they will win the national championship but they are mad about it because then they will be stuck with Ryan Day for longer. I’m not talking about a few crazy fans. And as far as the weather is concerned, I wouldn’t even look at it until Thursday because it could change drastically. 2 days ago it was 50 degrees. Today it’s snowing and 32 degrees. Monday it’s supposed to be 57.

Yeah, uh, not to question your relationship with your friend, but what "great friend" offers you tickets marked up over 2000%?

its literally just this guy guessing. lets calm down on the 35% stuff until we actually see something to back it up.
Yeah I don't believe it. Stub hub and seat Geek what a few hundred tickets total. That paired with the 3500 we were alloted is a re ioe of maybe 7-10%. I would be shocked (proud and happy) but definitely shocked to get our hands on that many tickets.

This is the first-year college playoff system, so the dynamics will be different. Not sure what to expect here, but I do travel to several away games during the year, so I'm basing my opinion on that alone. I would be SHOCKED if there are 10-15k fans there.

Actually - there are 4,199 listings on Vivid Seats. There are 2,902 listings on Stubb Hub with 1774 having at least 2 tickets. Seat Geek has 4,627 listings with at least 2 tickets. Some of them are probably repeats on all sites - but that is easily 9000 + tickets available for anyone who is considering going.

I bought 2 this morning and now the OSU AD has my email ... lol - so does Bama and Pittsburgh. That is what happens when you buy tickets from fans of the other team these days.

And that is not to say that Tennessee folks will buy up those tickets - just that for this game, there is a lot of opportunity.

I know I've seen a lot of people here saying the cold won't matter but check out the "Real Feel" at the bottom of the page from Accuweather for Columbus. Don't forget your serious coat if you plan on being at the game.

I've worked at a TV Station in Columbus for 14 years. My chief meteorologist assures me we shouldn't feel confident about any of these forecasts until Wednesday (though we should have a pretty good idea of what the weather will be by Sunday night/Monday). The forecasting models have been a bit strange for Central Ohio the entire year. Case in point, Columbus will be in the mid-50s on Monday.

If there are even 25% UT fans for a game like this, it speaks volumes about how the OSU fan base feels about Day, and is also a reflection on how out of control ticket prices have gotten. Think about it, if you have a couple of seats and can make a quick $5-6000, that makes watching it on the big screen in the comfort of your home a lot more attractive.
There is a family, in Augusta, that rents their house out for well over $20K for the week of the Masters. I know this as fact because I've stayed in the house a few times in the past.
The guy's back yard looked like Amen Corner. Major companies rent these houses for their customers during the Masters. Money well spent too.

First below freezing game in decades…wasn’t it 30 Fahrenheit at the Vandy game?

Not sure, but I remember a game against Missouri in Neyland in November where it was below freezing. And the night before I attended a high school game, also below freezing. We had hand warmers, gloves, blankets galore ... lol. That was not 10 years ago.
