I like both prospects but to your point, Merritt probably has a little more versatility from playing CB. Hayward is an elite safety whereas Merritt can probably be an elite DB in general in our defense. He’s a lot lighter than Hayward, so he will have to add weight. But he still hits. And has stronger coverage skills from playing CB.
Where did you hear that last part?Coaches love this guy. Not a huge evaluation difference from Hayward.
difference is he wants to be here so take the 5th ranked player in Ga and he can go wherever he wants. Merritt a good replacementWhere did you hear that last part?
Merritt is heck of a flip, but Hayward is the #5th ranked player in Georgia lol. Merrit is not even top 10 in a less talented state of Alabama.
All that aside they’re two different types of safety.
Hayward is an SEC caliber WR kind of athlete that can also fill the box and rush the passer. You have to at least use a TE to try and block him if he’s at the LOS. He can ride the hash and erase deep plays while being able to come downhill.
Merrit is a less athletic Boo Carter with the football smarts of a QB. Also a good combination.
But if I had ONE spot to fill and either would guarantee to sign, I’m taking Hayward 10/10.
We don’t have to justify the loss of Hayward by fabricating this notion that he 29th ranked player in Alabama is an equal trade haha.
We can still just be excited we filled a need with a good player .
Don’t disagree with anything you’ve said. I will say we really wanted Merritt even before we knew Hayward was looking at Florida. This isn’t really a replacement imo either. They’re different entirely imo.Where did you hear that last part?
