4-star center Cooper Mays commits to Tennessee

That is a major BOOM. How about the last of you holdouts drop the hate for the Mays family now!

I hate that "the lost brother" went elsewhere, but looking at the program as a whole, at the time he had to make his decision, I would have found it hard to commit to UT. For a player with an almost positive future in front of him, UT could not help him along the road to that future. It is really hard to say, but that is the way it was.

Pruitt and his staff was here BEFORE Cade signed with GA and they did indeed try to re-recruit him, but for whatever reason Cade wasnt having it. So Cade's decision to play for the leg-humpers wasnt solely because of Butch Jones. He knew Butch was fired. He knew the program was going to change. Yet he went to GA anyway. And then he was in that video, cracking on UT which didnt help matters.

Like everyone else on here, I'm disappointed when we fail to gain a commit from players that are legacies, but most of us have done what we thought was best for us at the time, just as Cade did when he chose the dogs over TN. As adults, we should accept their decision and move on. We all should stop and think, what if that were your child having those sort of comments being made about them? I think this was a big commitment but frankly, I'm really kind of surprised about it. Hopefully the Mays family has let the past be the past and moved on from it.

I know when he was recruited and by whom. Still, everything was in turmoil on the hill. Nothing had anything but promise, Ga. was in a little better shape at the top of the system .(admin, support, etc. on down) You could not say any of that about UT. Just think the more stable situation won out.

Im sure it did. Look, the kid did what he thought was best for him. I dont hold resentment towards him at all and honestly, I dont think anyone else does really. Fans who have lashed out at Cade, their frustration was misplaced. It really wasn't with him. It was with this program and how it could possibly lose a kid like Mays. Its just unfortunate the kid caught the brunt of the fallout. I mean, he was a 5 star Knox Co legacy player who grew up a huge TN fan. The fact that this staff lost what should have been the easist "layup" of a recruit still pisses fans off today. We just CANNOT lose kids like this!

They might be the only ones who have.

At the same time... until they sign I don’t count on them. That’s why you never stop recruiting!

After the way TN fans talked about his brother when he went to Georgia I can't believe he committed to us.
I'm not defending any stupid things our fans may have said on Facebook or Twitter. We can be just as petty and immature as any fan base out there (except maybe Alabama, they are in a class by themselves). However, Cade was also applauding and taking great pleasure in other de-commitments of ours on Facebook, such as Jaycee Horn and Adrian Martinez... and then you had that video with Tanner Antonutti. He was definitely poking Tennessee fans in the eye. The lack of class went both ways.

I am glad that our staff was able to work through that with Cooper and that he picked Tennessee. I think he is a great prospect and Knoxville kids are treated like royalty by the fan base, once they are on campus. He should have a great experience on The Hill.

All true.

The one thing that eludes most is the fact that Cade is a kid.... most of the stupid that was spewing like an overflowing sewer system from the keyboards of internet tough guys were coming from adults..... I was embarrassed to be a TN fan at that time.

He also knew the quality of the coaches we had hired for the lst 8-10 years. Pruitt was an unknown as a head coach and he chose Smart at UGa. Cooper is a intelligent young man and made the correct decision. I look forward to seeing him have four fantastic years at Tennessee.

Dude, you have NO CLASS. Cade is a great player. You don't start as a freshman at UGA on their OL with all the talent they have because daddy played ball!!! If you don't have anything nice to say about a teenager who made some mistakes like we all did as teenagers, get off this board and go get across from Cade to get your azz pancaked over and over again!!!
Calm down, Cade. Calm down.

The former UT Administration is to blame for our current football woes. Hart resigning as AD and it taking 3 additional months to get Currie on board just after Lyle Jones pissed away the 2016 season shows a lack of leadership at the top. Best thing that could and should have happened would have been to fire Jones right after the Vandy loss that year. UT lost at least a year in it's football development and injuries were all too common leaving little depth in many positions. I could see the writing on the wall at that time and it's possible the Mays family could see it also......UT was in disarray.
May be better now ......aight!

After what I've seen through the years rockin' orange or orange checkerboard bib overalls, there is no such thing as being embarrassed as a Tennessee fan.

CJP and staff was able to get him to come to UT simply because they made it about Cooper and not Cade . He is getting a chance to prove himself and play here just like any of the other recruits based on his own merits , not his families influence or talent . This tread is filled with “ Cade and family “ , even though I understand why we like to rehash all the garbage , I think that’s what Cooper is trying to get away from and make his own path . Only my opinion of course .

Given the mess that been at the UT, the hiring of ineffective HCs, the rightful but highly publicized objection that OSU scum as our coach, the Currie mess, some really good players undeveloped and not drafted, and no overt indication to the mess coming to an end. Then hiring an unproven and inexperienced HC who is a DC, Cade made the right choice. If the UT wants this kind of thing to end, get the mess cleaned up, get the program back into prominence, and invest in the program with the same seriousness as UAL and the UGA, UFL for that matter. Until we do, we will continue to see top-flight in-state talent play elsewhere.

Jalen and Cade will both find out, you can never go home again. These youngsters in the State of Tennessee will always carry a "EWWWW" factor with them until the day they die with many Tennesseans. If they never plan on living in the state again, it's no biggy. However if they believe there's a happy ending and they can live in Hendersonville and Knoxville happily ever after respectively after their playing days are over, they need to think again. Cooper will never have to pay for a meal or a drink or go without friends as long as he lives within the state comparatively.

Can't tell if you're joking or not.

He started due to an injury and was placed behind other players once they returned. The guy playing in front of him this year will be there until Cade's senior year, barring injury or leaving early.
After Cleveland's injury Mays started the rest of the year. Even when Cleveland came back, Mays held a starting spot.
