5 HC Candidates Are Listed - KNS

Nothing pisses me off more than a snob like Gary Parrish acting as if the Vol fanbase would not know if a coach was a good hire or not. Lots of credit being shown towards us. POS.

To be fair, isn't that how the majority of our fanbase felt when we hired Dooley? Another point, which is a constant reminder every time I log on here... Our basketball fanbase, save a select few which I whole heartedly respect their opinions, is in an infantile state. I was one of the 3-5k faithful during the Buzz years and the half court, sluggish games prior. I have spent my life conquering the UK faithful I have to deal with on a weekly basis and while they are ALL omnipotent basketball fans(adjust your sarcasm meter accordingly), we are just not there yet. We have a lot of people with passion, but a fundamental lack of understanding of the inner workings of how basketball programs are run vs how knowledgable our fanbase is(for the most part) in football.

Bruce's tenure is the microcosm of UT basketball that the majority of our fanbase knows. They only know how distraught we were in the immediate years leading up to Bruce's arrival and revival of a once proud program.

Times have changed in the last 6 years. We have the ability to compete with almost every school in the country and we have established a top 25 program when you factor everything from facilities to recruiting base to attendance and quality of arena.

If we don't land a top notch coach, then I will jump off the MH bandwagon and will be calling for his head with the rest of you Bruce T-Baggers.

Go Vols!!! We may stumble, but we will be back. I am sure of it!

HOMES!!! You dang well KNOW that UT is the better program today. Maybe not 2 years ago, but as of today, UT has the best facilities in the state, the best coach(and we don't even know who that is yet :p), and the best fanbase in the state. Not to mention we don't have to rent out an NBA arena to play our games. We OWN our OWN NBA quality venue SON!!!

Go Vols!!!

I laughed. Best thing youve ever written. But our RPI and close loss in the tourney puts us in the #2 spot for the state of TN. Thanks for playing though.

So RPI rankings (which I saw you bashing on the tiger boards) and moral victories. Nice.

I agree with those saying "smokescreen." These names just get people out chasing shadows. I would look at who is not on the list and fits what the Vols need. I wouldn't be surprised if the real #1 candidate is discussing terms right now through an agent, with the announcement coming once his team is out of the tournament.

TenaciousD, I am a Vol for life make no mistake, but I am also a Memphis alumnus. Obviously, I respectfully disagree with your viewpoint, but even I have to admit that you are one hell of a writer!

We can agree to disagree on this, as I am forced to live with incessant anti-Memphis rhetoric constantly on this board anyway. Throughout my many years of avidly following Volnation, I have been fortunate enough to develop a thick skin in this regard.

I may not necessarily appreciate what you have to say, but I sure enjoy reading how you say it. Your literary prowess seems to indicate that you are not a prototypical poster, more likely a writer of some sort?

Anyway, Go Vols!

If you were on the committee, who would your top 5 calls be? I'm trying to get a feel for a consensus of who exactly we want as fans, because it's sort of spread out through many different threads about different coaches so it's tough to get a good feel for it.
My 5:
1a. Brad Stevens
1b. Lawerence Frank
3. Gregg Marshall
4. Chris Mooney
5. Anthony Grant

1a. Larry Brown
1b. Brad Stevens
3. Lawrence Frank
4. Grant
5. Marshall

4 and 5 are close and could include a whole host of others. Mooney, Smart, Turgeon, etc. I don't think you get truly realistic til 3.

I would stick with your 1a and 1b and not get off of the phone until one of them said yes.

Stevens is the best choice. Frank would be ideal but I just don't see it happening. We need to minimize the "turn-downs" until after the tournament. No one wants a job no one wants.

First calls: Stevens and Frank
Next calls: Marshall and Turgeon
Next calls: Mooney and Grant

The list doesn't go on after that. We get one of those six.

I like Grant but I dont see us getting anyone on that list, gonna be a left field gamble like Pearl that we all hope comes out half as well,,and most likely wont with the sanctions and players we loose.

Good grief.

All the Lawrence Frank sheep on this board...

Frank is a vertically and follicly challenged man who enjoys screaming and cursing during practices and games where he coaches towards a boring style of basketball. He would go over as a recruiter in the SEC like David Duke at a NAACP fundraiser.

If that wee little man tried to pull off any of the stunts that Pearl used to endear himself to the fanbase, the students would laugh. Frank could not make it on the practice squad that plays the Lady Vols.

He took a great roster that Scott created at the Nets (with the GM) and regressed to the point that the ownership thought they could not win an NBA championship and it was time to dismantle the team and fire the coach.

Stevens turns down 3 million to Oregon, and probably countless other offers. He's content where he is and he has stated that time and again. What makes you think he come's to Knoxville? Don't get me wrong, I would love to have him. but I just don't think it's going to happen.

Its mind boggling to think that the historic Boston Celtics even have him on staff and better yet most consider him to be Rivers replacement. The guy obviously knows nothing about basketball.

Yeah, no way Frank could possibly do anything at UT. Just listen to MHF for criteria for a coach that could possibly be successful. His predictions are almost always right on target.

Have him list the 5 likely most successful hires, then list the 5 most likely terrible hires. Go after the 5 terrible at all costs and stay away from the 5 most liekly as if they have the Plague.

(See Grant at Alabubber thread in Aroung the NCAA for example A.)
