6-6 in 2014 is what we should expect (positive thread)

The fact that their was little to no drive in this team since the USCe win is what worries me. The quit came back in this team and it was evident. Couple that to how sloppy and poorly prepared the attack was against Vandy and I have reason to worry. We might only win five games next year, but if the team plays hard for sixty minutes and is always improving, I'll be happy. Unfortunately this year the team regressed over the last half of the season.

a lot of quit will be gone next year and there will be an influx of new talent,which is needed,i'm guessing at around 6 wins next year

gotta remember freshmen and the SEC don't mix well and we will be back to a lack of quality depth,but I'm with you,as long as they show progress over the whole year,it will be positive for sure

Shoot for 7 and if we win 6 move on to 15, that's when we will be returning to real TENNESSEE football, just got to hang in there and hold this recruiting class together and bring in another top 10 class next in 15 then bring on the big boys.

In 2014, Tennessee fans should expect nothing more than 6-6, which would be a good year in my opinion. Yes, it will be Butch's second year as coach, but (and yes I will use this argument) the situation he was brought into was in no way similar to that of Nick Saban's or many other coaches.

Unfortunately Tennessee has another tough schedule next year and getting to a bowl game will be remarkable. It is important I think, to set our standards low next year, so that anything above them will be a pleasant surprise.

Analyzing the schedule, it looks as if UT will have very few if any give me games. Utah State is a good football team with a good QB, it will be a difficult challenge starting off the season with them.

At Oklahoma is going to be a killer, followed by playing Georgia and Florida back to back, who will both hopefully be down.

I think the roughest part of the schedule will be Ole Miss, Alabama, and South Caroilna, which it seems we always get dealt a rough hand during that stretch of the year. Ole Miss will be improved, Alabama will more than likely be Alabama unless Saban leaves and whoever takes his place tanks the program, and South Carolina will be tough, even without Spurrier and Shaw.

It will be weird playing Kentucky so early, I don't think I like that at all. But that game shouldn't be a challenge. Luckily Tennessee has a nice and probably well deserved bye week before Mizzou, and that probably will help a lot but not enough, as I see Mizzou being good next year. Then we finish off the season at Vandy, and unless James Franklin leaves, that's going to be a tough game to win, I really hate to say that but it's true.

Utah State W
Arkansas State W
@Oklahoma L
-Open-
@Georgia L
Florida W
UTC W
@Ole Miss L
Alabama L
@South Carolina L
Kentucky W
-Open-
Mizzou L
@Vandy W

So 6-6 is what I have, this is in no way a negavol thread, I fully believe in what Butch Jones is doing and I understand the magnitude of the situation that UT is in right now and that it is going to take a couple of years to get out of it. Once again, this is my opinion, I would like to see UT win more and definitely not any less. A bowl berth is what we should expect and hope for as fans next year, that would be a huge improvement.

At best 6-6 and that is not firm by any means. I keep seeing everybody putting an automatic W by Utah State, but those cats rise up and play very good football from time to time, that is not a gimme by any stretch of the imagination. By the same token, OU is nowhere near the OU of the past, a solid team, no longer dominant world beaters.

And Stoops can be beaten on any given Saturday. Regardless the opponent.

No we shouldn't expect "the mess" to be turned around in one year. According to most of the posters that don't see anything wrong, Butch needs at least 5 years and that's complete bs. People wanna talk about stability, but hell we should have kept Dooley if we're just looking for that. Huge turnaround by year 3 at a university like this or bye bye.

Have fun trying to get a halfway decent coach if we do that. Before we hired CBJ we were turned down by several coaches. And good luck trying to get recruits to come here to if they aren't going to be playing for the coach that recruited them.

Two things you need to realize. Your "improvements" in recruiting still leave you at the bottom of the SEC... And Franklin is almost certain to leave for a REAL job after this season.

UT with the exception of one year has alway's out recruited Vandy. Vandy beat the Vols 2 years in a row with inferior talent.

I think with the JUCO talent coming in along with a few surprises from fr. And rsfr. We can win 7.

vs. Utah State - W
vs. Arkansas State - W
at Oklahoma - L
at Georgia - L
vs. Florida - L
vs. Chattanooga - W
at Ole Miss - L
vs. Alabama - L
at South Carolina - L
vs. Kentucky - W
vs. Missouri - L
at Vanderbilt - L

2014 predicted record - 4-8

Best chances to upset are Ole Miss at 45.5% and Vanderbilt at 35.7%. The rest of the chances of beating all SEC opponents are below.

- Georgia - 23.7%
- Florida - 30.8%
- Ole Miss - 45.5%
- Alabama - 18.7% (way too high of a chance IMO)
- South Carolina - 25.1%
- Kentucky - 60.0%
- Missouri - 28.0%
- Vanderbilt - 35.7%

- Chances of going undefeated in SEC play (for the lulz) - 0.009%

This is what my little math model came up with. I basically just used points scored and points allowed over the last 3 years with the 2014 recruiting class and combined them to make a very simplistic prediction model for next year.

Should the Vol fans be happy with another 4-8 season in 2014? Does it really matter if the Vol fans are happy?
Who really thinks Butch is the answer? Should the Vol's continue to be the doormat of the SEC or switch to a different conference?
