that's true. In fact, I think most have avoided here and I like that.I agree. Then again, most +2's don't feel the need to bring up the fact that they are a +2.

I still think in Memphis a guy playing to a legit +2 is one of the best amateurs at any club in Memphis. CCV is one of the best clubs in America and I played there a lot. Vinny Giles was probably the best player around there, and I don't know that he played to a lot better than a +2 for long stretches. He might have, but he didn't come back a whole lot with 68s.

vinny won the British Amateur, Runner up in the US Amateur and was Davis Love's agent forever. I'm thinking he could beat your buddy.Ok, we'll go small town...My best friend lives in a small town in W. TN, population 18,000. He carries a +3 and has tried winning his club championship for the past 19 years and his best finish is T4? And his name ain't Vinny, he breaks clubs not knees...

Marvin M. "Vinny" Giles III (born January 4, 1943) is an American amateur golfer. He his best known for winning both the U.S. Amateur and the British Amateur.
Giles graduated from the University of Georgia in 1966, where he was a three-time All-American on the golf team.[1] He also graduated from the University of Virginia Law School in 1969.[2]
Giles finished second in the U.S. Amateur three straight years, 1967 to 1969, before finally winning in 1972. This was in the stroke play era. His victory in the British Amateur came in 1975. He won numerous other amateur tournaments, including seven Virginia State Amateurs, as well as three Virginia Open titles.
Giles played on four Walker Cup teams (1969, 1971, 1973, 1975), winning three times, and captained the 1993 team to victory. He also played on three winning Eisenhower Trophy teams (1968, 1970, 1972) and captained the 1992 team to a runner-up finish.
Giles played in 11 professional majors, making the cut in three of nine Masters Tournament appearances and in both U.S. Open appearances. He was low amateur in the 1968 Masters Tournament (tied for 22nd) and in the 1973 U.S. Open (17th). He was also low amateur in three U.S. Senior Opens (1993, 1996, 1997)
Giles served on the Executive Committee of the Virginia State Golf Association for over 20 years, and then was first an Associate Director and then a Director of the Southern Golf Association for three years.
Giles was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 1976[3] and the Southern Golf Association Hall of Fame in 1984.[4]
Giles is owner and president of a golf management firm which represents such golfers as Tom Kite, Davis Love III, Lanny Wadkins, Beth Daniel, and Meg Mallon. He lives in Richmond, Virginia.
This was several moons ago, but he was the best player at CCV and the best in VA for years. He wasn't punching up low #s because the course was tough, but homey could play. I was but a caddie in those days. Not sure being an agent gets him an street cred (no one thinks Jimmy Sexton can play football), but the rest of his resume is damn impressive. He finished second in the US Am twice - and won it in 72.
But if it's the same dude, he's 65. I'm not sure he could beat a +3 now.

I bet I get it. Sounds like your buddy's a good golfer with some choke in him.I don't think you are get where I'm going here? My buddy, small town club, carries a +2.6 and hasn't won the club championship in 19 tries, right. He is not even the best player in his age group(35-40) much less a 50 mile radius. This is just an example of a +2 not winning most cc. Who cares if Vinny could can beat him, that's not the discussion.
Any of you who might want to play on a Friday before a UT game, just let me know. I can get us on virtually any course in Knoxville area, including Holston or Fox Den. YOu can decide then if I know what I am talking about. We can have a friendly game
k:
I like the old True better! Tell us you will take us out and kick our asses!
In all seriousness, we need a Volnation golf get together. We have talked about it for too long. Perhaps we can put something in stone before the Florida game this year.
I will definitely take you up on your offer, and gladly accept tips on my game.
