_Vols in NC...get out and vote!!! Need your help. MAY 8

For me, it comes down to personal belief. God said being gay is a sin. He said we are never going to experience things we can't overcome. No one is born gay, no matter how sure they may be. God made us and made marriage to be a sacred union between a man and woman. I don't think it's something I should force people to believe, but to see the country start leaning toward gay marriages is sickening. I know i'll be shot down, but it's my belief told in the bible.

And when we stand before God himself...as every man is appointed to do, I know this is one thing I won't have to answer for. I've made many mistakes and sinned plenty, but every single person who willingly voted against this knowing full well it was against Gods word will answer for it. These people have been ripping my views for a month, but I don't answer to them or the gay agenda. I answer to God, and Him alone.

tax exempt status is that big of a deal?

Of course. Big Religion has always gotten a pass in this country because we have allowed it's exemption from all tax code. Flat tax the tithes and the donations just like we tax everything else. Do you really think they should not be held accountable? 15% across the board seems fair to me for all individuals and institutions, whether they are citizens or "non-profits". A flat tax would solve all of our problems, right?

With 300 employees, a projection of $77 million in annual revenue and audited financial statements, Houston's Lakewood Church sounds a lot like a business.

And in many ways, it is.

"It would be naive to say, 'No, we're not a business,' " Senior Pastor Joel Osteen said in an interview. "We obviously are a business because we're dealing with millions of dollars. And I say that because we don't take that lightly.

What's 15% of 77 million?

meh, i'm indifferent.
except for when they can afford to buy former basketball arenas.

Churches these days aren't real churches imo. Churches are supposed to be religious places to worship together, not make campuses and create tons of secular buildings, etc etc.

If churches, like marcusvol's, can legislate, then they should be held to the same standard as the rest of the populace. Why are we letting this revenue stream strain the economy? They're essentially nothing more than a PAC. Tax them. Anyone have any hard numbers on the potential effect that would have on tax revenue? Does anyone else think they should be exempt from the tax code, given their obvious pull in affecting the economy of states that are subject to their particular form of legislation?

Go back to the zone.

No religious system should be exempt of the taz code.

My church didnt legislate anything einstein. There are roughly 9.5million people here. Over 2 million voted and the vast majority of them approved this legislation. Its democracy. The same thing happened in your state too while you were sitting on your can. The majority of americans, religous or otherwise have passed this in 30 states. Including CA and WA. You are the minority. Not us. You lost. That's how democracy works.

I thought this country was founded on freedom. I truly believe we are witnessing the last gasps of the ultra-conservatives, with their dogma and their faulty brand of veiled pseudo-religiosity influence the undercurrent of the millenials and their unique desire to end prejudice. The problem is that the younger voters are so disenfranchised by their elders, that they shy away from elections like these because they don't want to get their hands dirty; the whole process is a sham to them. My hope is that we'll fix it soon......

Wow, conservative republicans sounding like liberals democrats on this issue.

God forbid different people have equal rights. That is why your God will never be mine.

Christians gotta have their views put into law. Disgusting.

God said a lot of things.

Like killing people that work on the sabbath.
Exodus 31:12-15 NIV - The Sabbath - Then the LORD said to - Bible Gateway

Kill Kids
2 Kings 2:23-24 NIV - Elisha Is Jeered - From there Elisha - Bible Gateway

A lot more killing when it says thou shall not kill.

But we don't have a democracy.. We have a constitutional republic. But our lawmakers have no backbone.

Desperate worthless rant. I've sat and watched my country be run in the ground by a community organizer for 4 years but accept it because I understand it was put to a vote and he won. You have turned to hatred towards me, made a fool of yourself, threatened to turn your back on God, and challenged the tax status of every church in America bc a popular vote IN A STATE YOU DON'T RESIDE didn't go the way you wanted it to. Brilliant work. Drunk again?
