_Vols in NC...get out and vote!!! Need your help. MAY 8

Doesn't need to be mentioned.

so how do we know our country was founded on it? It could've been founded on nothing. That's why we have freedom of religion, which means any or no religion. If a person does not worship one's religions God then he should not be subject to his rules.

God said marriage was 1 man 1 woman. Wake up. If legislation that supports His word makes you question your belief in Him there is a logic problem somewhere. God doesn't change what's wrong and right to suit your buddies. They change their lives to suit Him. He is God, unchanging for eternity. They are humans whose purpose in life, every mans purpose; is to glorify God. Some learn this Truth and accept it. Other do not and burn. It really is that simple.

that's great and all but what about

"Freedom of Religion"

Of the 55 delegates to the 1787 Constitutional Convention, 49 were Protestants, and three were Roman Catholics (C. Carroll, D. Carroll, and Fitzsimons). Among the Protestant delegates to the Constitutional Convention, 28 were Church of England (or Episcopalian, after the American Revolutionary War was won), eight were Presbyterians, seven were Congregationalists, two were Lutherans, two were Dutch Reformed, and two were Methodists.
A few prominent Founding Fathers were anti-clerical Christians, such as Thomas Jefferson (who created the so-called "Jefferson Bible") and Benjamin Franklin. A few others (most notably Thomas Paine) were deists, or at least held beliefs very similar to those of deists.

.

Flat tax for everyone. I think you've espoused that philosophy before. I might be wrong. Do you think that there are organizations/civilians that are worthy of tax exempt status?

I could go either way - flat tax on all; flat tax on income only; tax-exempt for not-for-profits.

I was pointing out that if other not-for-profits are tax exempt than churches should be too. Seems the direction of the thread was anti-church and that somehow morphed into "tax the bastards".

I never said I enjoy forcing Gods rule on people. But if given the choice to support gays or God i'm going with God every time.

The Old Testament said that. Jesus never said that. Now, we come full circle. Show me where Jesus said that, and I'll shut up....

i agree it seemed to go that way. But no one should be tax exempt. Unless you made $0.

"tax the bastards" would be on the level of profundity of "Kill the poor". As punks, we understand the irony of what I'm doing here, hopefully....

By that logic we should live in anarchy. If each man is left to decide what's right and wrong then the laws based on the 10 commandments would be gone. Stealing, murder, fraud, rape etc. Maybe you have no problem with say drugs or polygamy. What if your neighbor has no problem killing people who like polygamy...you'd be dead. The laws and basic rules for society for basically every modern society in the world come from 1 or more of the 3 major (abrahamic) religions. Man left to his own morals would already be extinct.

Are you attempting to say that there is no mention in the new testament that marriage ia a man and a woman or that homosexuality is sin? You're wrong either way just looking for clarity.

Why not operate under the assumption of individual rights as long as they don't infringe upon others' individual rights? Gay marriage does not effect you or your rights. Someone murdering you would be infringing upon your right to live. Common sense.

each of those things (except drugs and polygamy) are at the consequence of someone else. If you kill someone, there is someone else dead. Someone that didn't want to die. If you steal something, there's something that someone used to have that they don't anymore. fraud is same as stealing. I have no problem with drugs, as long as you don't affect anyone else. If you start stealing to support your habit then that affects someone else. The laws across the world are pretty much the same, no matter what religion the majority of the citizens are. Japan is Buddist, but it's still illegal to steal. India is Hindu, it's illegal to murder.

too much sense.

I hope someone sues. This needs to go through the court system and be heard by the SCOTUS. Enforcing religious views upon others is unconstitutional. Using religion to define what marriage is clearly goes against the separation of church and state. Too many people in power are hiding themselves from this fight. They're afraid of losing their power. Outlawing gay marriage is the segragation of our time. Society has singled out a group that is different and has decided to treat them unfairly. Why people don't see this boggles my mind. You don't have to agree with homosexuality or go against God to let other people be responsible for their lives. Believe what you believe and feel free to practice it, but afford others the same respect. To deny them that is nothing less than bigotry.

I've always considered myself a Christian. I believe in God. I believe in Christ. But some out there operating under the banner of "Christianity" have left me feeling my God and my Christ must be someone different than theirs. I don't remember Jesus forcing anyone to accept Him. He left the choice to them. But in today's world, it appears "Christians" know better than Christ and must enforce their will upon the masses. I wonder how my God would look upon that?
