Meet The Press had an interesting round table Sunday morning about religion and politics. It's not online quite yet, but I found it to be an interesting discussion.

so not minding your own business and voting for government to have the authority to use force to back up what you think the Bible and your church is telling you will guarantee you a place in Heaven?

are there 72 virgins waiting for you on the other side as well?

No, my faith in Christ guarantees me a place in Heaven. A place that I do not deserve. Read Romans in any version of the Bible. It clearly defines how to get there. You must believe that Christ died for you and repent of your sin. I am neither self righteous or a hypocrite. I am a sinner who knows the truth. I am not judging anyone in this forum nor do I believe I am in any way superior to you. Do you know what the word christian means? It means people who strive to live like Christ. God states in his word what marriage is. If you are striving to live as His son did then you are morally obligated to vote based on your faith. It amazes me when self professed Christians vote for candidates whose beliefs are morally the polar opposite of Gods word. You can't live on both sides of the street.

I have no desire to tell other people what to do in their lives or bedrooms. That is their choice. Whether you like it or not marriage has already been defined by God, in His word. He invented both Man and Woman. He defined their roles and invented the union we call marriage. You don't need to believe this in order for it to be true. You don't have to believe in Him either but one day you and I will both stand before Him and give an account of our lives on this earth. Whether you believe in Him or not. Then you will spend eternity either in Heaven or Hell. We have been given free will to choose what our eternity will entail...the choices and outcomes are clearly defined. Choose wisely.

May God have mercy on your soul.

First of all, almost every Christian conservative candidate will sell us all out for 30 pieces of silver. It's the nature of politics.

God/Jesus never advocated a society where government ensures morality. Do you know why he didn't? Because a society that can't choose to be immoral cannot choose to be moral either.

Honest question, what exactly are you trying to get at in this thread?

You are all over the spectrum

from my limited understanding, Jesus didn't care who you were or who you did.

you seriously don't understand?

Well first of all I am going to guess none of you live in NC so I'm not sure why all of you are so upset.

Second, if you do live there and if it passes and you hate it that much. Move

I am glad to see states taking this issue up, let the voters of these states decide it.

That is a lofty assumption.

A place that I do not deserve.

Based on your thread, I would probably agree.

Read Romans in any version of the Bible. It clearly defines how to get there. You must believe that Christ died for you and repent of your sin.

There are many different interpretations of every religious scripture.

I am neither self righteous or a hypocrite.

You speak too soon, just wait, later in your post you disprove this.

I am a sinner who knows the truth.

You do not know the "truth". You are a mere finite mortal. You, like everybody else, know nothing. You believe you know the "truth". People like you (of all faiths and backgrounds) are dangerous.

I am not judging anyone in this forum nor do I believe I am in any way superior to you.

Here is where you are a hypocrite. You know that you are going to heaven, implying that some of us aren't so lucky. That in and of itself is implying superiority...on an eternal scale nonetheless.

Do you know what the word christian means?

Sure don't. Please tell us, oh one with the "truth".

It means people who strive to live like Christ.

Ah. So that is what it means? If so, I doubt that you and most "Christians" qualify as being "Christian" by your own definition.

God states in his word what marriage is. If you are striving to live as His son did then you are morally obligated to vote based on your faith.

I don't believe Christ would authorize or condone the use of force to enact his ideals. You once again fail.

It amazes me when self professed Christians vote for candidates whose beliefs are morally the polar opposite of Gods word. You can't live on both sides of the street.

You are both pompous and arrogant beyond comprehension if you believe you truly know God or his will.

It troubles me OE that you profess to be a bible thumper but don't desire Gods will to be done in our country. I'm sure you are familiar with the Lords prayer, given to us by Christ himself as an instruction of how to pray. What do you think He means when he says "...thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.." Every pastor I've ever heard interprets that to mean that we should seek to do His will here on Earth. He clearly defines marriage in the Bible. To pervert its meaning seems logically opposed to His will. Again, I don't care what other people do in their bedrooms. Marriage, however, is a covenant between God, a man, and a woman.

Freedom should be up the upmost importance, not voting against freedom

No one is saying they can't be gay. States just don't want them getting married in their state. Let it be decided on the state level. Where is it your business what the people of NC want?
