It troubles me OE that you profess to be a bible thumper but don't desire Gods will to be done in our country. I'm sure you are familiar with the Lords prayer, given to us by Christ himself as an instruction of how to pray. What do you think He means when he says "...thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.." Every pastor I've ever heard interprets that to mean that we should seek to do His will here on Earth. He clearly defines marriage in the Bible. To pervert its meaning seems logically opposed to His will. Again, I don't care what other people do in their bedrooms. Marriage, however, is a covenant between God, a man, and a woman.

What exactly is your point?

Freedom gives you the ability to choose.

I also have the freedom to disagree with whom I choose.

Not quite sure what you are trying to argue

No one is saying they can't be gay. States just don't want them getting married in their state. Let it be decided on the state level. Where is it your business what the people of NC want?

so anything a state decides to vote for should be allowed?

Why in the world would you want govt defining marriage?

It is my concern where freedom is willingly given up.

Once it gets started, it's everyone's business. Location doesn't matter as much as intent.

so what happens if this bill in NC is passed but a church in Raleigh defies the "will of the people" and continues to perform marriage ceremonies for gay couples?

Does the state go in with guns blazing to shut the church down and arrest those who'd gotten married?

government should have no say in the matter whatsoever

I believe we're starting to answer the question- Who would vote for Santorum?

if something is not protected by the Constitution, let the states decide.

still doesn't answer the question as to why the state govt needs to be involved. How does a same-sex couple affect your marriage one bit?

I am as big of a "state's rights" guy as the next.

What level of government is futile to the issue at hand. It is that government is involved in this matter which is causing the outrage.

No one would be arrested with guns blazing. They would just not be recognized.

Marriage is not meant for procreation. Marriage is meant for those who can't control their desires of the flesh. Also, as a Christian it is not my responsibility to force my beliefs and ideals upon someone through government, but rather, influence them through my works and deeds as a Christian.

I voted for Romney, thanks for your inquiry.

How does gay marriage not being allowed in NC affect you?

Unfortunately the US tax code is not in the bible. Nor are laws regulating insurance companies. It's your right as a US citizen to enjoy freely the beliefs you hold so dear. But to say that someone shouldn't enjoy the same tax benefits or insurance coverage that you or your wife enjoys because of their sexual orientation is straight up ignorant. Have a blessed day.

like that's better :ermm:

because I want freedom for all. NC apparently does not share my views

They will have freedom either way, if the law passes and someone does not like it they have the freedom to move. If it does not pass and someone does not like it they have the freedom to move.

I hope you never try and pass yourself off as a small govt person

no state should be allowed to engage in discriminatory practices

Well let's just outlaw sports in the US. It wouldn't diminish our freedom, because we could just move to Canada.

I'm not against states deciding things. I just believe those issues should be a little more important than who's putting a ring on who. It disturbs me that there are people out there who are struggling to find jobs in order to support their families, but we are worrying more about the actions of other citizens that don't affect you or I one bit.

I have a sneaking suspicion that if the state legislature of Tennessee adopted a law based on Islamic scripture or beliefs, you would be singing a different tune.
