_Vols in NC...get out and vote!!! Need your help. MAY 8

the people pushing this specifically pointed out that the churches were the major player in getting it passed. To ignore that in favor of a single example (which may or may not even be correct) is a bit ridiculous

So were people allowed to vote who wanted to allow gay marriage? If they were and they just did not show up then that's their problem. Sounds like the other side had more organization and more people fired up.

the religious would be lost without a cause or yet another wayward soul to save.

Being "fired up" about discrimination isn't really something to brag about is it?

My brother is getting married (to a girl) in late June up in the Chapel Hill area. Good to know its legal and all.

It's the system we have and they should have gone to the polls to protect themselves. Just because you're not gay doesn't mean you're unaffected. Next time the vote might affect you. Or even worse no vote at all because a president has been set.

it's hard to get people to cast a vote to maintain the status quo. Evidently it's much easier to remove rights than to simply maintain them

I don't see it as discrimination. And it's always funny how you people whine about Christians discriminating but you all bash Christians pretty much non stop here.

If all the non evil Christians cared so much about not letting Christians discriminate against everyone who does not believe like they do then I guess they would have went out and voted huh?

when a vote is passed that says you can't go to church on Sundays then you'll have a point. Until then...

I haven't seen anyone "bash Christians." I've sen people bash bigotry, including Christian bigotry. But I haven't seen anyone, for example, say that Christians should not be allowed to marry (say, because they aren't Catholic).

Big difference.

What rights were removed ?

Was same sex marriage legal in NC before yesterday?

The people did vote to maintain the status quo.

there was a constitutional amendment banning it before yesterday?

It was not legal yesterday , after the vote it still is not legal.

to vote yesterday was to pass an amendment outright banning anything but 1 man and 1 woman getting married. A vote against it was to maintain the current laws. Only one side voted for anything to change

But as Gramps suggested - NC already had a ban on gay marriage. This was an amendment to prevent the existing ban from being over turned by the courts.

I think it's an absolutely ridiculous thing to make an amendment about but either way, gay marriage was not legal in NC

2 wrongs?

That's a lie. In fact there were commercials every single day from gay agenda suppoters like progressNC during the evening news and in prime time explaining the whole issue, with their spin of course. The bottom line is 30 states say "no!" To gay marriage. Simple as that. There will be more.

Exit polls suggest that those ads didn't work. People didn't really know what they were voting on

The State already outlaws same-sex marriage by statute.

Is marriage a right?

It is not a natural right; however, equal treatment under the law is a legal right that is granted by the Constitution of the United States, specifically Section I of the 14th Amendment (which was used as the primary justification for the opinion in Brown which regarded privileges under the law, viz. education privileges).
