I don't want to sound tacky or downplay the magnitude of the filthy, tragic events that have transpired at Penn St.

But I want to touch on a side note.
Paterno is apparently about to be shown the door, therefore sportswriters do their job, and talk about who will replace JoPa. Interestingly enough, Urban Meyer's name continually comes up!

Now, I know that doesn't mean he'll just up and take the job, but we're just talking here.

I thought the reason he "retired" was because of his health and time with family. I can respect that.

But if he comes back to coaching again, it will just solidify our theory that the real reason he "retired" was because he quickly figured out that he couldn't win in the SEC without Tebow.

Just my opinion.

Thoughts?

Why the hell would he go to Penn State?

If I was a recruit I wouldn't step foot in that locker room until it was demolished and rebuilt.

Can you imagine showering in there? Seriously. That would just feel all kinds of wrong.

I like Urban (even more now that he doesn't coach UF) and could see him going to Penn State. I agree that JoePa is fixing to get shown the door but I think they'll wait until his season is finished first. No way he comes back next year.

Urban Crier will go to T.O.$.U. The Ohio State University in January, after they play in their bowl game.
Why do you think that T.O.$.U. only signed Fickle to a one year contract. Urban Crier could have gone to T.O.$.U. at the beginning of this season, but he likely wanted to see what the NCAA was going to do about the allegations against T.O.$.U.

I dont think Urban would go to Penn State simply because of the cloud that is hanging over their program right now.

I always wondered what a nittany lion was. Now I know. I'm sorry for those kids and pray everybody at least learns to stand up even if it's unpopular with the people around them. Somebody needs to cancel the game and Paterno should be a man now and quit. If at no other time now football is not bigger than life.

Meyer recruited Tebow. Meyer won two SEC Championships and two National Championships. Meyer might have had to recruit another great dual threat talent at QB but to assume that would have been impossible is far-fetched.

Urban Meyer proved that he could not only compete in the SEC but that he could win at the highest levels in the SEC.

I think I have a pretty good sense of humor, but I just don't find anything about this situation even remotely funny. 9+ kids had their lives ruined by the worst kind of human being...there's just nothing funny there

I never thought CUM wasn’t done with coaching, only the stress that is involved coaching in the SEC. I believe C. Meyer has always had his sights set on OSU, I think he knew that this was coming down and was setting his self up for some time off then wait on OSU to rebound. We all know that the current Interim coach will not be the final coach selection, he is there only to guide them thru the penalty faze of the NCAA infractions. So to answer your question, NO CUM will not be the next PSU coach.

Meyer was good at Florida because of Tebow. When Tebow left Meyer did not know what to do. Any one can recruit to Florida. The campus recruits itself.

Didn't catch that, which University?

Just like Miami, FSU, USC, and UCLA, right? Ironically, the best recruits do not always pick those schools (and, when they did pick Miami and USC they were lured through money)...

If Urban Meyer wanted the HC job at UT, I would hope that the Athletic Department would create an opening for him immediately.

Meyer won a NC with Chris Leak and won big at Utah - those that are saying he was only a good coach as long as he had Tebow are simply wrong

Are you really that dumb to think that Meyer couldn't win in the SEC because of one player?

Driskel would have been the perfect Tebow clone for the next 4 years. Urban would have won. He won everywhere he went.

This kind of mentality always makes me laugh when people say "well, he only won because of Tebow, Harvin, etc."

That's why you go and get those players!!! You know you have beaten a team/fan base whyen they say "yeah, but you will suck when so and so is gone........"

It's loser speak.

And to play devil's advocate.............if it's so easy to win/recruit there, why did nobody do it before Spurrier?

You can't have it both ways. You have morons saying "Anybody can win at Florida" when the opposite answer is "then why didn't they in the past at the level they are now?"

Anyone who would argue against this on your board is the epitome of foolish.

Leak was the starter, but Tebow was still a force that saw a lot of playing time, and played a significant role in their NC in 06.

What did Urban win after Tim left?

I'm not sold on Urban as a "great" HC just because he had the unstoppable human battering ram for 4 years.

He won big at Utah, playing who? BYU? San Diego St?

He won big at UF, with Tebow.

What did he do after Tebow?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion ... mine is that I'm not sold on Urbie as an elite coach.

Now, as for Urbie at Ohio St ... I must live under a rock because I didn't know the things mentioned in this thread about it. Interesting to say the least.

Honestly, Urbie would probably fit well at OSU.

But he still left UF when he learned he could not win in the SEC w/o Tebow. (just my opinion, take it for what it's worth, not worth much)

You dont think those stresses exist in the BigTen? You know. . the conference that is trying to convince the country that it can hang with the SEC?

The only way he gets away from the stress, and comes back to coaching, is to go to Columbia. Maybe Cumberland University. Even Tenn Tech is a stressful job.

The only real way to avoid those stresses, Stay in the Booth. And that is what he will do.
