A comment about Urban

Why the hell would he go to Penn State?

If I was a recruit I wouldn't step foot in that locker room until it was demolished and rebuilt.

Can you imagine showering in there? Seriously. That would just feel all kinds of wrong.

And people wonder why JoePa wasn't forthright? I'd have to do something, but he knew that the reputation of PSU football would be toast and he hoped it would go away.

It didn't.

I think I have a pretty good sense of humor, but I just don't find anything about this situation even remotely funny. 9+ kids had their lives ruined by the worst kind of human being...there's just nothing funny there

You're right. Urban Meyer

Meyer won a NC with Chris Leak and won big at Utah - those that are saying he was only a good coach as long as he had Tebow are simply wrong

He was good when he had Dan Mullen. When he didn't, he wasn't so good.

I don't understand the hating on Urban Meyer. I hated the fact that he coached at UF and beat the crap out of us consistently but I always had tons of respect for what he accomplished at UF.

I don't want to sound tacky or downplay the magnitude of the filthy, tragic events that have transpired at Penn St.

But I want to touch on a side note.
Paterno is apparently about to be shown the door, therefore sportswriters do their job, and talk about who will replace JoPa. Interestingly enough, Urban Meyer's name continually comes up!

Now, I know that doesn't mean he'll just up and take the job, but we're just talking here.

I thought the reason he "retired" was because of his health and time with family. I can respect that.

But if he comes back to coaching again, it will just solidify our theory that the real reason he "retired" was because he quickly figured out that he couldn't win in the SEC without Tebow.

Just my opinion.

Thoughts?

yeah cause he didn't win at Utah with Alex Smith or anything.

Apparently, the only thing Sandusky didn't do to little boys is circumcise them.

Urban Crier will go to T.O.$.U. The Ohio State University in January, after they play in their bowl game.
Why do you think that T.O.$.U. only signed Fickle to a one year contract. Urban Crier could have gone to T.O.$.U. at the beginning of this season, but he likely wanted to see what the NCAA was going to do about the allegations against T.O.$.U.
If I'm Urban Meyer, I don't get within 100 miles of Columbus, OH until I see what the NCAA sanctions are going to be.

Not sure of all the ins and outs of the case. I heard Paterno told the AD when he first heard about it. Ball out of his court imo. What else can he do but run it up the chain of command. Ousting a legend for this is knee jerk.

Call the cops when it's apparent that the chain of command is not working and not stand idly by as the guy who you were told was in the shower with a 10 year old boy is holding more camps at your facility.

Point taken. But is it Joe Pa's job to follow up on his former employers actions? I'm just saying the AD should have reported it to the police after Joe reported to him. Its not on Joe to follow up once he dropped it in the AD's lap. Its on the AD then.

Fair point - Mullen's a solid coach who would do much better than he's currently doing if he was somewhere else. Miss St is a tough place to recruit and win consistently

Urban/Mullen - Fulmer/Cutcliffe similar?

Completely wrong! This isn't about football or chain of command. This is about having knowledge of a child molester. He should have called the cops right after he beat the crap out of the guy with his walker. You don't bother with chain of command in these instances.

I think that's a fair comparison although I think Meyer and Mullen both are better coaches than fulmer or cutcliffe.

The problem with that is there was a kid involved. I blame everybody down to the GA that saw Sandusky in the shower with the 10 year old boy. Hindsight is 20/20, but you just can't take chances when kids are involved.

Need more time to put Mullen above Fulmer.

That's why you can't excuse it. Even if it was a guy they thought walked on water. It's really baffling that he let that happen and terrible all at the same time.

No. I didn't think I would ever say this, but Penn State has worse PR troubles than the Catholic Church. That job is radioactive for now and maybe for a good while.

I'll bet the alumni at Penn State wish they were in NCAA trouble instead of this.

It's this type of attitude that facilitates this kind of stuff. They saw Sandusky raping a kid in the shower. Let that sink in. Then, those same people sat and watched him continue to routinely come and go as he pleased at the same facility where he raped a kid and did absolutely nothing.

Saying, "Oh well, I reported it to the AD, so everything's fine" isn't enough, and trying to pretend that's a sufficient response is pathetic.

Per Pennsylvania law, that's all he had to do.

Another way of looking at it, though:

A grown man raped your 10-year-old son/ 10-year-old grandson/ 10-year-old brother. You find out that someone saw this and told his boss. His boss then told his boss.

In the meantime, the rapist continued to hang around the office, and also continued hanging around more 10-year-old boys, possibly including your son/ grandson/ brother, and he kept bringing more of them to the office.

Are you OK with this because the first boss (Paterno in this case) reported your kid's rape to his higher-up and then did nothing else? For nine more years?
