I'm not sure why this is even a thread, but no one is making you donate anything. No one knows her financial situation. Are there less fortunate people in the world? Yes, but I highly doubt you donate much, if any money to them anyway.

Tell her to save all her money. She doesn't need make up, getting her hair done or a fancy orange blazer. I know college students can spend/waste money. If she eats nothing but beans and rice for the next six months she'll have enough for two semesters abroad. Success is given to people who want it more than others. It's not given to people by others, unless you got a rich daddy.

I'm sure you mean well Taz, but there are numerous students who have to take out student loans and are working full or part-time to get an education. If others want to donate to this young lady's "cause" then so be it, but I have a hard time identifying this as a "need".

Agreed. Kids dying of malnutrition in Africa. People right here with hundreds of thousands in hospital bills. Orphanages and missionaries all over the wrld in bad need of funding. Not only am I offended by her trying to smile her way into a trip to central Europe, I'm annoyed and saddened by anyone who actually donates. A fool and his money are easily parted.

Spent a week in Prague 3 yrs ago and polished my brewing and drinking skills along with seeing the sites with my wife. I can tell you this, there are more prostitutes in that city than any other in the world. Girls that are like 14 that have been pushed through the slave trade pipelines. If she was my daughter this is the last place I would fund her to go for a summer. This girl frankly better watch out because she will get eaten alive like the wolf pack in Bangkok.

My daughter went to Spain for college and didn't ask me for a nickle

Can I get a retro fund started now?

I wish I would have thought of this. Could have avoided 75,000 in student loan debt.
You should have gone to U.T. when I did in the late 60's and early 70's. Four years cost less than $7,000 total, and that included room and board.

The kids in Africa will die of malnutrition whether we fund her trip or not. People right here will still owe hundreds of thousands in hospital bills. Orphanages and missionaries all over the world will still be in bad need of funding. I won't donate, but I also won't tell other people what to do with their money, or try to shame them. To each, his own.

Why wouldn't she try to study abroad through UT's study abroad program the whole semester? How much can she learn in three weeks? Would she be attending classes or workshops while there? She should be a little more specific on what she's actually doing over there. Also, one of her facebook pics has her in a midriff shirt that just says RICH across it lol.

I really don't think I'd be insensitive in saying ... get a job

if she was an athlete, the 'donations' would be an NCAA violation

I didn't get to study abroad because it was too expensive; & who woulda thought? hold a 'I like UT football' sign & ask for thousands from strangers

My daughter studied in the Netherlands for a semester while she was a student at UTK. She paid her tuition to UTK and had to cover her transportation, room and board while abroad. Except for the airfare, it was just about the same cost as when she was back in Knoxville. That was around 2008, not sure why it would be different now.
