A great review from an outsider!

Me and my best friend were watching the game last night...and he knows how much of a diehard fan I am of UT. I always would try and defend them and say we are really a good team, just underachieving...Cuonzo Martin sucks...on paper we are a top 25 team...blah blah blah. Last night he flat out says "YOU WANNA KNOW WHY YOUR TEAM SUCKS?....ITS BECAUSE THEY ARE LAZY BALLHOGS TRYING TO MAKE ESPN HIGHLIGHTS. THEY ARE FLAT OUT LAZY!"

I never really thought about it like that guys. Is this team lazy? He also thinks J Richarson is our best all-around player lol Do you agree with that? It was just good to hear it from an outsider who doesn't give a flying crap about UT.

Thoughts?

* My best friend and I......

"team lazy" - yes, I agree with your friend.

I thought the announcer had it right when he said this Tennessee team has not shown the ability to get it done during Crunch Time.

i can name several things that tennessee is missing that keep them from being elite.

but, the things that are keeping tennessee from being a tournament lock are coaching and phoning in games or parts of games.

if they beat utep, vandy, and texas a&m, tennessee would be 18-6 with an 8-3 conference record.

they'd be a lock. they only way tennessee could lose those games is if at some point (or maybe even the entire game), they didn't give a damn.

i blame zo for a lot of that. but, a lot of that also lies at the hands of a bunch of kids who you would think would badly want to play in the ncaa tournament.

Anybody else notice you posted this in about 4 different threads?
Would just like some comments. I believe the refusal to use a zone defense has cost us at least a half a dozen games. Vandy scored 36 point to our 24 in the paint with 7 scholarship players against 3 all sec players!

It is kind of strange that you have alot of comments about our team as a rival fan. I think you intentions are good, but sometimes it seems like piling on. I don't know what games you have actually watched, but there have been some coaching issues. However, this team was not blown out of a game until the first UF game. UTEP was strange- they shot lights out (I would guess maybe the best of the season, almost 60%) and Floyd threw a junk defense at McRae, and our coaches didn't respond. I didn't see Vandy. We were up by 14 at half against A&M, and they shot 52% from 3, which I would also venture to say is their season's best. We would have still won if we had hit late FT's. The guy that hit the winning 3 had been 2/16 from 3 all year. Bad coaching and some bad luck.

I think the reason this team lost to Fla. is pretty simple...We are not a clutch shooting team. When it comes to shots being made that need to be made, this team can't get it done.

The reason for a lot of our losses is that the players take on the personality of the coach. When a coach doesn't care if they win or lose then the players respond accordingly. It is contagious.

Yes I'm sure an employee who's job status depends greatly on wins and losses doesn't care if they win or lose.

Brilliant.

Is our staff poor at making second half adjustments (and has it gotten worse in SEC play)? Some interesting numbers:

In the nine losses on the season, TN is scoring about 14% less than their opponents in the second half (296-337). That's about on par with first half scoring in those games, when we've been outscored 237-272 (15%).

However, in the five SEC losses, we've been outscored 138-182 in the second half. In other words, opponents have scored 32% more points than we are in the second half of those five games. That compares to essentially even first halves - 143 for us, 147 for our opponents in those five games. It's admittedly a small sample size, but it's hard to win that way.

To be fair, half the time it's hard to tell from Cuonzo's demeanor if he gives a damn or not.

From the way he uses TOs I'd be inclined to guess he's all out of damns to give.

So, because his philosophy is different than yours, it automatically means he doesn't care? Interesting.

Our offense stalls and then you got guys like Jordan that drive into the paint with three or four defenders to make a play. I don't look at it like ballhogs, I just see it as someone trying to make something happen.

Say what you want but there's ZERO sense of urgency from him or his players. Just as there wasn't last year. And just like last year he's saying that Tennessee is in the NCAA field when we are not. Second verse, same as the first.

Show me a link where he's said that recently because I've seen him saying the complete opposite, that they have work to do.

I heard CM in one of his pre game interviews say that he felt we were in a really good position to make the NCAA, which sounded to me like he thought were in. Of course, at this stage of the season, 90% of the teams have work to do.

@Ben_Fred: "I thought it would be 6, but it's 5 right now." - Cuonzo Martin on how many #SEC teams seemed headed for the NCAA Tourney right now.

I heard him say that 5 or 6 SEC teams would get in on the same pre game interview where CM said he thought we were in good position to make the NCAA.
