A healthy dose of perspective

What was so frustrating about Dooley was that his hire was strictly because of his name. We could have even hired an accomplished coordinator that would have at least kept the program afloat for 3-4 seasons. But the head honchos acted like they had to scramble, when in reality it was a wink wink Dooley-has the-right-connections hire.

I seem to remember it as Dooley was the "only one that would take the job" hire.

Honestly there have been so many low points the past 10 years or so it's hard to pick just one. But if I had to pick, it would be when we lost to Kentucky with Kentucky playing a WR at QB and they won 10-7. Then that offseason we all knew Dooley would be a lame duck but they kept him anyway.

Kiffin putting his USC posters up in the locker room and having the team pose like Chippendales, losses to Vandy, Georgia State.. those were the lowest lows imo

Pruitt years. I thought he would be okay at first but the second year was a disaster.
One of Dooley's biggest issues was lack of defense. If he hadn't brought in Sunsuri or what ever his name was, and tried to change the defense to a 3-4 without the players to do it with he would have been more successful.

Imo Pruitt is either very ignorant coaching football or else his hands were tied to have to play jg..

Wow! This thread sucks. However, there's another level of suck that's responsible for all of this. UT's admin and boosters were ultimately responsible for this 15 year trip through the wilderness.

Low point? 3-7 and having 30+ players transfer, most of which were starters and our best players on a team that only won 3 games. With EVERYTHING looming I thought it was the final nail in our coffin. Death sentence, UT football was dead unless something miraculous happened. Not going to lie, when we hired Huepel I thought here we go again, another underwhelming hire who got the job because Danny White was his buddy. I couldn't have been more wrong and even though it's only been a year and a half all that feels like a distant memory. We are in the resurrection of our proud program. From the ashes to number 1. Couldn't be happier to have meaningful games in November and to enjoy college football again the way I did in the 90's. I can't get enough playoff talk, scenarios, looking at other teams remaining schedules, etc. This is the first year in probably 15 years that I have sat down and watched a full game that Tennessee wasn't playing in just to see how good other teams like Ohio State and Clemson are. This season has made me fall in love with college football again because we are relevant and it makes every other game played important to me because the outcomes can directly impact our playoff chances. Love it.

Hear me out. This is not a negative Nancy thread.

I believe two reasons this season has been so satisfying are 1. It was quite a surprise 2. What we have endured as a fan base for 15 years.

Regarding my second point, what was the LOWEST point of this fan base since Fulmer was fired?

I'm immediately reminded of Dooley throwing his crutches, the champions of life presser, and the Mdonalds bag story. I think losing to Vandy in 2016 and seeing the frat boys of West End dancing to Rocky Top was an all time low moment

Kiffin leaving
Dooley LSU game
Butch saying JG wasn’t ready for snaps under center in post game vs Florida 2017 (that sealed his fate)
Brady Hoke booting Jennings off team

My low point? Georgia State.

We had Slingblade McCluelessgump on the sidelines. Even 3 years later, the fact our defense lined up like this, and McCluelessgump didn't call timeout, should have been the sign that he was done.

If memory serves, the GS QB saw this, audibled, and they rambled over the right side of their line for about 15 yards.

The level of incompetence was just amazing.

Mine was the BYU game. WE flew in from Utah, was really pumped. But all thru the game I told my son I didn't feel good because we let them hang around, and sure enough, the long pass at the end, and then overtime. On their score to win the game it looked like a big team hug at the 5 yd line that slowly moved across the goal. It looked like we didn't care at all.

I honestly have no clue what you speak of. Champions have short memories.

For me, it was our first game under Pruitt. There was so much talk during the offseason about how improved the offensive line would be, because it was always so bad under Butch. And on the first play of the first game against WVU, our o-line gets blown up and JG fumbles. I didn’t need to see any more than that to know that Pruitt would be a disaster.

The Kiffin Debacle and it's not even close. I think everything that came after Kiffin doesn't happen if Kiffin had not of happen.

Actually, his second team in 2019, should have won 10 games...Finished 8-5, with losses to Georgia State and BYU...He had a good coaching staff that year. They all bailed after the bowl game that year.

There have been so many low points. The one that still makes me cringe is the "brick by brick" phrase. That and the stupid trash can.

This sure seems like a negative Nancy thread. Why are you searching for our lowest point during the highest point in forever?
Part of enjoying this ride is remembering just how far we have come. I fear some people on these boards have quickly forgotten just how awful things have been and to soak in this feeling now regardless of what happens Saturday

I'm gonna pick a different one. All the above and more than valid. All of them hurt, but I think the one that sticks in my craw is the year we beat Fla and Georgia and still don't make it to the SEC Championship. I remember starting off season really fast and even being ranked pretty high. The road was paved for us to Atlanta, then the wheels fell off of the ride. At that moment I wondered if we would ever be good again.
