A list of all recruits the Vols lead for (for the Dooley haters)

Really? Cite your source please.

Look at their offers. That's a great way to judge if a recruit is big time or not. We are going after the same recruits as Maryland and Duke for the most part. Tennessee is not an ACC school. We can't compete in the SEC with ACC level recruits.

There are a few guys on there that I would love to have, the rest...ehh.

On that list, I would take every one of them. Harris probably being the one I'm least excited about. I think we'll see some bigger names come up. I'm going to wait until at least August to pass judgment.

Randolph isn't leaning toward UT.

Posey just named Clemson his leader.

Not really. There are two things that are attractive to highly rated recruits. One is to play for a "name" or a championship program.

The other is to play early for a team that they believe can rise to a championship level. A team like UT that has the history, traditions, facilities, name, etc is primed to use that approach. All DD and his staff have to do is sell it.

Whether you like Dooley or not, that sales job won't be that difficult after this year. UT will play freshmen all over the field by necessity. The first 8 OL's will more than likely have at least 3 true Fr and two RS Fr... then UT will STILL have holes to be filled with newcomers in '11.

If we were in December or even August this would be a legitimate point. Schools often show interest but only offer after looking at summer camp performance. Schofield is a guy that no one wanted at this time two years ago... not even UT. By the end of summer, he had committed to UT, been awarded 4*, and was being recruited by the likes of Bama.

Further, you may hate the hire and think DD is a bad coach but ALL of the coaches on this staff know what talent looks like... ALL of them. They have passed on offering some kids that are already considered "big time" to offer the kids they have.

When you guys have the history of Thompson, Dooley, et al at evaluating talent... rather than reading Rivals... then maybe we will listen to you. However, I've seen people here just go nuts over signing... Chris Donald, Kenny O'Neal, D Morley, Brent Vinson, etc... and poo-poo guys like Rogan, Karl, etc who turned into very good players for UT.

Let the professionals do the work.

IMO, if there is a down side to the DD experiment, it will come on the field or in long term recruiting. I think he did well in '10 and has a tremendous opportunity in '11 and to a lesser degree in '12. If they don't show serious signs of improvement during the '11 season then it will be time IMO to cut bait.

Trying to equate how good these guys are at this point because of their offer lists is just silly man. Most of the players haven't been evaluated yet, and a lot of coaching staffs wait until after the camp circuit to start offering a bunch of guys anyway. Also, some guys don't become highly recruited until after their senior seasons, because of their production levels. So, let it pan out.

Only a few of those guys will be highly rated (4/5 star), we are rebuilding and if we rebuild with 2/3 stars with only a few 4 stars and occasionally a 5 star we will be farther and farther behind. Let me know when there are more than 5 highly rated players saying we are in their top 5.

Ok! You just sit there and complain and I'll let you know when it's safe to jump back on the ol' bandwagon :good!:

So your saying the difference in a top recruiting class and an average one is CDD and the staffs pitch? Interesting.

But really it is more or less a cycle to some degree. I mean look at the past national camps. The last few years the team that wins the ship wins the recruiting title the next year (FLA, LSU, USC in 2004).

I don't know what to make of this. Is he being truthful, or am I missing out on a lot of sarcasm here?

Are you mental? Where in my post did I say I didn't like Dooley?

Also, to the poster who mentioned Schofield, you think we have a lost of guys right now that only a few schools know about and will end up being highly wanted...the chances for having that happen are slim.

That's always the case. Selling a NC is just a very good thing to be selling.

All recruiting is about sales. Just like anything else, a coach will try to accentuate the positives he has to offer and talk the "buyer" into ignoring any negatives.

Or better yet... turn the negatives into a positive (i.e. we have no depth so you will see plenty of playing time).

Winning a NC generates buzz without the coach having to lift a finger. Can you really say it doesn't? And if you say it then isn't that a separate factor then the coach or someone selling the program.

Disagree. UT won a NC, CPF didn't "sell" it, led a decade of decline, and was let go.

It creates buzz of course... but you can sell against it. If a team has the depth to win an NC... then they are too deep for early PT. If they win it with relatively young players as Bama did then they're even more vulnerable in that regard.

Success is a pretty good thing to be selling... but you still have to convince a kid that they'll be a participant in the success and not just an observer.
