A Rare Opportunity Tonight.

Will the Ruperees be a factor? Perhaps, but given how the calls have been going here at home, it might not be that much more of a disadvantage.

Tonight has all the makings of an ugly game. Both teams struggle with their identity. I rarely feel good with UT going into Rupp. But this is one of those times where it is definitely doable.

The psychology of hat's post:

building up the the volnation viewership into thinking we should win this game, when in reality we are a major underdog with our coach coming back from suspension and our best player hobbling with a busted boot...so that if things don't go our favor he can criticize cbp even harder than usual.

Yes, this is a decent opportunity to get a win in Lexington, but decent at best given our current situation.

Bruce has been coaching with the exception of eight days. He was suspended. Not dead.

Rupp is a tough place to play, no matter the team KY puts on the floor. But this UK team has some serious issues at the moment, and this is by far the best chance to steal a win out of there that I can remember in recent memory.

Three minor points of contention....1)The Vols have issues also... 2) The Game is at Rupp, did I also mention that the game is at Rupp? 3) Hopson is not even close to 100%.

1.) Our issues are not as strong as UK's right now.
2.) Rupp is a tough place to play. I already touched on that.
3.) Even without Scotty at 100%, this is as good as a matchup as UT can ask.

Don't see it happening with a gimped Hopson. Although our offense should have an easier time against Kentucky's D than they did on Saturday. I just don't see us being able to generate the amount of points we need, especially in a tight game at the end, to pull out the victory. I'm sure we'll dominate the glass tonight which should give us a shot at the end but we had a 20+ rebound margin against Alabama and still lost. Guys are going to have to step up and hit shots tonight. Hopefully we decide to actually move in the half-court. Don't see it happening though. Hopefully we get Harrellson and Vargas in foul trouble and continue to pound it inside.

But yeah, rebound, guard the perimeter, and pound it inside and we'll have a chance.

NY, what do you see as KY disabling issues other than maybe youth?

As much as it pains me to say so - you are correct.

Here's a couple questions for you guys:
1.) Do the Vols play primarily man defense?
2.) If so - who guards Jones?

Lack of interior size is the gorilla in the room for them. Also, Cal has had a heckuva time with this teams effort. Rebounding and defense has been an issue. I've not recalled a Cal coached team with this many question marks at this part of the season. They are struggling with their identity.

This team still can be scary come March, but right now they are vulnerable.

Yes - unfortunately Tobias will probably be guarding him quite a bit. Maybe throw in some Steven Pearl and John Fields to help out against him.

1. Yes
2. Harris probably gets the starting nod. Pearl has a tendency to rotate guys on the best player. Expect to see Steven get him at times to be a bit more physical. Harris better step it up tonight. He's had problems with athletic guys all year.

Scotty Will play IMO however unless they shoot him up with the good stuff, they way I saw him walking around campus....He was limping badly over the weekend.

Odd. He must have reinjured himself jumping around in unlaced combact boots during the game Saturday on the sidelines. His towel waving bouncing around looked to be uninhibited by any injury.

I would not be surprised if Fields got first shot at him myself. I think Harris on him is a major mistmatch.

We had a decided advantage in both trips when Gillispie was the coach - not really that long ago.

Jones is a jaw-dropper. I mean that both positively and negatively. He can do things that make you say Wow. On the other hand; he can do things that make you shake your head and say Good Lord.

I think he has to have a super game for UK to win.

I agree it's a mismatch. Wouldn't put it past Pearl to start Harris on him, though.

He may. I did see McBee on Kemba Walker a couple of trips down the court a few weeks back so not out of the question.

I wish I had the confidence of some of you guys. I just don't like this at all tonight. I can't imagine that Cal doesn't have UK ready to play after their last week. Plus, throw in Rupp, and I just don't get a good feeling about it.
