A Rare Opportunity Tonight.

It's not often that Tennessee goes into Rupp Arena with a really good chance of winning. This one of them. Kentucky is every bit as screwed up as UT right now and has zero depth across the front line. It'll be a squandered advantage if the Big Otange doesn't get the W.

If Hopson isn't playing, I don't see how we win at Rupp. Great day to be wrong though.

We had a decided advantage in both trips when Gillispie was the coach - not really that long ago.

If Bruce were Superman, then Gillispie and Kevin O'Neill would be the kryptonite. I think those two coaches could beat Bruce with just about any BCS-level roster.

Folks, you're just kidding yourself thinking we should win tonight. A team that can't beat Bama at home should not and will not win at Rupp.

If UK presses us tonight we will be screwed.

They seem to press mainly when needed(down by 8-10 pts.), probably because of depth issues. However, Ky is good at it because of their length and athleticism.

Should a team that can't be Bama at home be able to slaughter Pitt and beat Nova? We have a very good chance tonight, especially if we rebound like we have been throughout the SEC schedule.

The psychology of hat's post:

building up the the volnation viewership into thinking we should win this game, when in reality we are a major underdog with our coach coming back from suspension and our best player hobbling with a busted boot...so that if things don't go our favor he can criticize cbp even harder than usual.

Yes, this is a decent opportunity to get a win in Lexington, but decent at best given our current situation.
If Tennessee is a "major underdog" to a team that lost to Ole Miss and has Elroy Vargas as their first sub post sub, the season is already lost.

Those two wins were a long time ago now. We haven't been the same team since those wins. We out rebounded Bama by 15 and held them without a field goal for the last 9+ minutes of the game on our home court and still lost.

No one has beaten Kentucky more than the Vols. Hope we play well and have a shot at the end.

1. yes
2. Fields, primarily

I admit I have not watched you guys as much this year as in the past. I guess I'm a little surprised. I would not think Fields is quick enough to guard Jones out on the floor. Jones posting up - Fields would be fine. Fields keeping him from slashing to the lane I would think to be a problem.

Fields will have two blocks tonight

Surely you're not refering to the same 'Bama team that was up 20 on UK? As someone interested in watching UK fail (my whole family went to UK) and someone who has closely followed them, I can honestly say this team appears to be getting worse. They seems to be becoming less of a "team" by the game.

Tennessee has won the last 3 SEC road games. I like our chances in Rupp against this Kentucky squad.

Long time ago?....How has ky done recently?

No question UK has struggled on the road. However, the Alabama game we lost was on our home court. We had to play a terrible offensive game to lose that one. We also decided to add a half of terrible defense, just for good measure.

I'm not saying we're consistent. But we are good enough to beat ky.....on a given night.

Should have put a disclaimer before that answer:

That is what I would do, with a little help from BW or SP. Pearl will have Harris on Jones which is a much better matchup for you guys since athletic guys give him so much trouble.

For the record I would have Bone on Knight, primarily.

Well, they haven't lost a home game since Cal has been coach there. They have the second longest home win streak in the NCAA. They obviously struggle on the road this year, but haven't had that problem at home.

Okay fine, those two wins were a while ago but we are still capable of playing that way. But if you don't want to go back that far, we also did beat UGA and Vandy. UK is nothing special this year. The most difficult part of this game is playing in Rupp, but I don't think our guys are really effected from playing on the road.
