A Really Rough Offseason For Programs Run By Phonies.

Drew has put Baylor basketball on the map. There would be no basketball program at Baylor if Drew left. All coaches threaten players to sign or be deported, when the occasion calls for it. I think this is just an over-reaction to this situation. Drew will continue to win and that's all that matters.

That's terrible and stupid all rolled into one.

Baylor can't catch a break with their bball team.

Hat - was drew like this before he got the baylor job? I don't even know where he was.
He replaced his dad at Valpo. The whole family is a bunch of pious phonies.

That sound you heard was Scott Drew getting blacklisted by all major programs.
The word's been out on him for years. No program worth a damn was ever going to hire him. That's why his camp floated the crap about him being in the running at Memphis. They have to keep creating the illusion of a market for him so they can rook the Baptists out of a bigger check.

So do we have a chance at landing this guy? It seems like we're on the list, but has this really opened things up? Or is he ready to commit to Indiana?

It's someone that works for Scott Drew. I'm not in the least bit surprised. RC Johnson considered the guy too sleazy for Memphis. That speaks volumes.

Are you sure R.C. was capable of that? I thought Drew withdrew his name after Geoff Calkins and Dan Wolken led a media crap storm over him being a candidate.

That's the thing. He was never a candidate. Ever. That was just his people throwing out false reports so he could fleece Baylor. Calkins and Wolken simply responded to the smokescreen. There's not a decent program in America who would hire him.

What kind of lawsuit?

I am not a lawyer, but this would be my guess.

Extortion is a criminal offense which occurs when a person unlawfully obtains either money, property or services from a person(s), entity, or institution, through coercion.

Person A - the coach
Person B - the recruit
The Service - playing basketball for the university
Coercion- threat of deportation

Too bad the NCAA doesn't have the balls to take down Calipari. I mean any team that hires a guy that has gotten 2 programs in trouble deserves whatever punishment they have coming. Tark the Shark, Jim Harrick, Kelvin Sampson, Calipari. How does the NCAA allow these guys to be eligible to accept a coaching job?

We have discussed the Bruce Pearl situation ad infinitum. Now, it appears scandal is coming to the program run by the biggest phony in college basketball. Baylor assistant Matt Morefield sent a text to the high school coach of Hanner Perea essentially threatening to have the kid deported back to Colombia if he didn't sign with Baylor. Gary Parrish has the gory details in his column today. I can't believe someone like Scott Drew, who would have you believe he sits at the right hand of God, would allow this to happen. Must be a mistake.

A program with Scott Drew at the helm is running afoul of NCAA rules... blasphemy.

Interesting.

I didn't/don't know anything about him except that it at least appeared he'd pulled Baylor bball back from the grave. I was a bit surprised the first time I read your thoughts because I had no idea, but yeah, I hope he likes Waco because he's not going anywhere else.

At least he didn't pay players and Cal is worse than him---he just doesn't get caught.

I may be the only one, but I think threatening deportation might be a tad worse than paying.....

And I love how all bball shenanagans always ends up a comparison to Cal.

Well, fact is deportation was an idle threat. Immigration never actually deports anyone.
