When he came out of high school, never did I iamgine he would have a better college career than Willie Kemp.

Glad I was wrong, and I will definitely miss Weezy.

I'm trying remember but I think Peterson actually brought Chism in...and Pearl honored the scholarship if I'm not badly mistaken.

Regardless...I've had the priviledge of watching Wayne play for the past 8 years and have enjoyed everyone of them.. We are gonna miss you Big Man! GBO!

Wayne was Bruce's second recruiting class. The Childress class was his first. Neither were Peterson recruits.

Chattanooga Times Free Press | Home finale for three Vols
This is a great article by Wes Rucker and accompanying video is very entertaining. Fans attending tonight's game will get UT headbands and many students are planning on wearing them just like Wayne does his. Impressed to read that he will graduate from UT with a double major and that Maze will graduate with honors.

Great post op, Chism is one of our all time greats. He will be missed very much. He has bled orange his entire career and he is a class act. He is a great leader for this team and I hope he plays lights out tonight.

Also another addition to the list honoring Chism: Chism is the only man on UT campus and possibly in the entire nation to ever beat Rod Wilks in a game of one on one.

Just a few corrections to point #7. It was Chism's sophomore year when UT played Durant and Texas. Although UT won the game, Durant completely owned our whole team. Chism certainly didn't hold his own and Durant was free to go to the basket whenever he wanted. Also, Chism never held his own against Hansborough that I recall. That being said he is still one of my favorite players to ever put on the orange.

Had Wayne kept his head in the game for 4 seasons, he might have been a true great here. He was strong, but ADD hurt at times.

Here is a recap of the game:

Texas Longhorns vs. Tennessee Volunteers - Recap - December 23, 2006 - ESPN

[I Suggest a Clickety Click on the highlights at that link because there are some awesome Chism plays -- he scored 7 of UT's 22 points in the OT]

The Texas game was in December 2006. December 2007 Chism was a Sophomore. December 2008 Chism was a Junior. December 2009 Chism was a Senior. So, unless Chism played for 5 years, he was a freshman when Durant and Texas came to Knoxville on December 23, 2006.

And with a teammate (Lofton) leading all scorers by far with 35 points, I'd say with Chism scoring 18 with 8 rebounds to Durant's 26 and 8 rebounds to lead Texas, that it is not too much use of poetic license to say Chism "held his own", especially with Chism playing 9 fewer minutes and taking 13 fewer shots than Durant. (It would be more appropriate to say that Lofton, with 7 three pointers and those 35 points, owned Texas).

In fact, since this is Senior Night, I'm going to go farther and say Chism "outplayed" Durant.
