A Tribute to Wayne Chism

I'm going to miss Wayne just as much as I've missed Chris Lofton the last two years. Two of my favorite players of all time.

Wayne truly gives his all for Tennessee. Whether it's playing in pain, killing himself just to get the ball, or just playing tough in general, he's a great player and I wish him all the success possible at the next level, whether it's the NBA or Euroleague.

Had Wayne kept his head in the game for 4 seasons, he might have been a true great here. He was strong, but ADD hurt at times.

I'll co-sign this. He has a tendency to pick his spots, but when he plays with high intensity he is often the best player on the floor. He deserves credit for improving this aspect of his game post-Tyler.

Chism has represented the basketball team and the university with class. He will be greatly missed next season. I fully agree with everything that has been said.

I think I agree - and would argue it's not because of the amazing things he does on his own but b/c he sets the tone for the rest of the team.

When he blew up at Vandy a few yrs ago, we lost our focus and lost the game. When he checked out of the Fla game at UF this year (partly b/c of injury), the team checked out too.

When he blocked Aldridge in the first 2 mins against Kansas, it sent a message to the team: "It's on." Wayne sat a large portion of that game, but the team played one of its best games of the season.

So, perhaps when he's at his best he's not necessarily the best player on the floor but the most important.

Excellent post, thanks for posting it. :good!:

Chism is certainly up there with my favorite all-time Vols in any sport. We will definitely miss his presence and personality on the court and in the locker room.

MANY THANKS WEEZY!!!

All of this and my lasting image of him in 20 years will be of when I saw him on the hill eating a slice of pizza while sitting on the back of a car.

being at the Ark game the other night made me think back to Chism's first home game as a Vol way back when. I remember being pumped seeing him and Duke crash the boards. It was a new day for bball in Ktown and just as exciting then as it is now. 4 years has gone by fast. Thanks Wayne.
