Where was this talent against Michigan the game before? Ohio state played above their mean against us. Why? Because we’ve been a bad away team this entire year. This game should have been in Knoxville anyway, but no one can think for themselves. They look at this one game and think Ohio state is the greatest team ever made without using their damned brain. Michigan wasn’t good this year. They weren’t. And they beat ohio state. Their offense looked terrible against Michigan's you think the more talented team

And that means nothing. The most talented team doesn't always win. We have lost to alot of less talented teams through the year. Talent is just part of the equation but we are behind the top teams in that reguard.

We got outcoached vs tOSU. Simple really.
They were ready for every offensive formation and the OLine stoutly neutralized our 4 man pass rush.
Three weeks to prep and we changed nothing. They were all over our usual schemes, which is exactly what they saw all night long.

Nico's scrambling and running ability could have helped make it a game if he wasn't down 3 TDs so quickly. Our ineffective pass rush gave their receivers extra seconds to get open. It wasn't 1/2 seconds or 1/4 seconds you usually need to find a receiver, but 2 or 3 and sometimes more seconds with a clean pocket on a lot of passing plays.

Tennessee invested a lot of their money into keeping some of the OL & DL for another year. They also are NOT going to buy a guy who’s simply looking for a big payday. How did Bond at Texas, Wells at Ole Miss, Judkins at OSU work out? Were any worth $1million? No.

The thing is Ohio State spends 8 million more on players than UT does. The top 5 rated teams all spend significantly more than UT. When you have to go on the road to play these teams the gap is obvious.

100% but we use to use the high ground and act like we were better than that but now the reality is we wouldnt have paid if weI think that is a tough pill to swallow but a reality. Look at our coaching hires that put us in our current situation. Dooley, Tendell, Pruitt.. I could go on but you get the point. Time and time again the university puts the goal to be in the top 15 more so than doing what it takes to win a championship.

That’s a bitter pill to swallow, but it’s an undeniable reality. Consider the pattern of coaching hires that have landed us in our current predicament: Dooley, Kiffin, Pruitt—the list goes on. Each time, the university seems content with aiming for mediocrity, prioritizing a place in the top 20 over committing to the investments necessary to build a championship-winning program.

If we truly aspire to take the next step, the solution isn’t just swapping coaches every few years. The root issue lies with our financial commitment—or lack thereof. Until our donors are willing to open their wallets and spend at the level of programs like Ohio State, we’ll continue to tread water. Championships demand the best of the best in every position, from players to staff, and securing that level of talent requires a willingness to make the financial sacrifices needed to rise above the rest.

I firmly believe Heupel has what it takes to bring a national title to Tennessee. He’s been there before as a quarterback, and he’s shown the capability to lead and innovate as a coach. But Heupel, like any coach, can only do so much without the resources to recruit, retain, and develop championship-caliber talent. The path is clear—now it’s up to the boosters to pave it.

Yes and telling this makes some fans mad. I'm mad that UT isn't putting forth the effort that the fans are. The fans are top notch and deserve better. The coaches also deserve the talent to compete but they get the blame.

Your big mistake is using the general fan support to assess a collective grade. The problem, just like in team sports is some members are self centered rather than team oriented, think they are smarter than the coaches, and the worst ones feel justified to breed malcontent among their peers based on their self defined brilliance.

There are way too many declarative statements and not nearly enough questions being asked. Just like others squads, we would be better off without these cancers.

Don’t need denial, fact based analysis is good, but to ASSume that any single performance establishes a trend going forward, regardless of the importance of the game is crazy.

Hated that after they took the first shot to the gut and cut it to 11 at half, that they reacted to the quick out and OSU response so poorly, but thankful none appeared to become sideline cancers.

Hope the returning players out character certain elements of the fanbase. Obviously have some legacy mattress burners amid the ORANGE clad with keyboard skills.

Where did you get that from??? I know very well they have more talent, that is easy to see.

I like J also and if you look at the messages on his videos so do alot of other people.
I agree and I cannot watch BB. He gets under my skin. He seems to avoid wearing orange like the plague. What's with the blue?

Agree, Bentley is terrible. Most of the YouTubers get info from Volquest and Go Vols 247 and make videos about it. Sports talk J talks about other teams too much.

Tn isn't paying the money for players that Ohio State and some of the top teams are. Huepyl is doing very well considering the talent gap. The fans are top not but UT will have to step it up to be top 5 galiber.
True, but when the three of our opponents who beat us this year stated that they knew what defense had to do to stop our offense. I realize that two of those team have superior talent, but when Arkansas beat us because they could set their defense to our formations and successfully stop our offense, there is a problem in our offensive scheme. That along with some glaring weaknesses in certain offensive and defensive positions, we will not compete for Championships. We have to improve our talent, -lay calling and our development of the talent we do have. I hope and believe AD White will have some off season suggestions about solving the current problems, and they are problems.

I remember just a couple of years ago reading that UT was leading the way with NIL.... Read it right here on VolNation. Looks like we ain't on the "lead lap" anymore. That should never happen with the Tennessee brand an fan support we have, well not if they're respected and appreciated anyway....

I would not call a game where we scored 24 second half points to win "squeaking by" the #7 team in the country

Who really knows. Maybe we are just spreading it around a lot more than other schools. Our Baseball, mens and womens basketball seem to be doing very well. And the football team was third best in the SEC. Overall, our athletic dept. seems to be doing as well as anyone.

Oh ok sure use one game. You just happen to use one of the biggest rivalry games in all of college football as an example. You ever watch the iron bowl? How many times did Saban field a VASTLY more talented team than Auburn yet struggle nightly or even lose?

How about use the same OSU team that barely lost to undefeated Oregon on the road? Yeah guess you don’t want to use that huh? If you can’t objectively look at OSU and say they are easily one of the top teams in the nation then you are being intentionally dumb. The talent gap between us and them are huge.

We apparently don’t have the billionaires like many of the other schools. Also, look at the Volunteer club with Spyre. Do we even have 5k members? As of April last year we had a little over 3k. That’s embarrassing given how large this fan base is.

If fans want to win then they need to start helping out. I mean we sell out almost every home game. So let’s just say we got 150k fans who watch and are die hard VFLs. Now let’s say that 100k of them signed up for the $10/month plan and 50k signed up for the $25/month plan. That’s 2.25 million per month. Now 90% of that goes to athletics. So that’s over 1.8 million per month.

I don’t want to hear any excuses about what people can and can’t afford. I know people who spend more than $25 on a single Starbucks order. So you are right we shouldn’t be behind in NIL given our fan base. But the fan base is one of the big reasons we are falling behind.
