Aaron Craft Commits to BasketVols

I think it is harder to find an impact 3* in basketball than in football. You have about 6.5 times as many scholarships in football. The top half of the league in football is going to sign quite a few 3*. This is because, per capita, there are fewer 4* and 5* to go around in football than in basketball. Hence, 3* generally have a larger impact on the field than the court.

Feel free to critique the logic.

5 star guys in basketball are pretty much sure fire projections. Yet, Bruce has fumbled on both of his five star guys so far.

Hey, just to let you know. You look like a moron talking ish about Bruce Pearl when he has done what he has with the talent he's had.

Was Bruce supplying the doobies?

I'd rather have the 3* thats a good kid, 4 year player than a guy who is gonna come to practice half the time, class a quarter of the time and pot all the time.

you don't understand what he's saying. We all know Bruce is a great coach but i still have my doubts about his scouting of high school players.

Have you not read anything VolBall has written?

He is saying that Pearl has gotten more of a free pass than Fulmer ever will, whether it's deserved or not. Then it went into a battle of who does what with what talent.

He's proving a valid point that Pearl's 5 stars haven't turned out yet. If Fulmer turns out 3 stars, it is "we're not going after enough highly ranked players".

Pearl has done a great job with his personnel, and no one is bashing him, some just don't necessarily like a 3* who got offers from mid major schools when we only have 3-6 commits for the 2010 class.

I saw zero "ish" talking, just proving a point, that happens to be true.

Fulmer has also proven that he can take a 5 star and get nothing out of him.

I don't disagree with your point, but so has Bruce. Crews and Ramar were both enormous flops. However, he got everything he could out of Chris Lofton, JuJuan Smith and Tyler Smith. No one is safe from recruiting flops. However, I am not a basketball scout, therefore I will reserve my judgement on Craft until I see him play several games at UT. Others would be wise to do the same...

dude, they were not good bball players regardless if they went to class or were smoking weed. You're foolish for thinking that just them were smoking. You hear alot of stuff when you go to the same school as these athletes. Basketball and football.

My biggest issue with Pearl over his scouting his is discipline. Yeah, he did send them two packing but they have had many chances.

back to Craft....

Aaron Craft, 6-foot-2, Point Guard, Findlay Liberty-Benton
A rising junior, Craft was the purest point guard that the event had to offer, giving everything that a coach could ask for outside of scoring the ball. He was easily the best perimeter defender in attendance, putting the clamps on whomever he was pegged against. As seen throughout on the AAU circuit, he did an excellent job of distributing the ball and getting everyone involved. Unfortunately for Craft, his teammates did not have the same mindset, as once he passed the ball, he rarely touched it again. Already holding offers from mid-major programs, Craft is a player who will never be a superstar but is everything that one could look for out of a role player at the point guard position.

Over 3600 hundred total yards as a qb. That's pretty impressive. Looks like Pearl is searching for an athletic distributor.

i think we both like Craft, it was Rex's comments that got us to where we are now. Go back and read.

Well then it's a good thing you having nothing to do with it. What is it that you don't like about Craft? Have you actually seen him play?

The 2010 class is ridiculously loaded. And we are in it with a bunch of elite guys. You know what, I'll just agree with Pearl and never question him leaving us nothing to talk about on here.

After reading this thread, you know nothing about basketball. That is all

Damn right, I am right. This has no effect with our "other highly ranked recruits" so stop dwelling on that.

Ramar was a 5-star SG but had to play point (and wanted to play point) because UT needed him and he was going to have to learn to play the point for the NBA. So I don't really consider him a "bust", especially since people like Jerry Meyer said he was a marginal PG coming in (Pearl turned him into All-SEC freshman). We were forced to take him as a PG because we missed out on a couple of other PGs.

Duke Crews was on the rise at the end of his freshman year and the irregular heartbeat that held him out his sophomore year definitely stunted his development.

JP Prince is another 5-star who was SEC 6th MOTY so he seems to be able to handle 5-stars pretty well if they are healthy.

Also every other non-5-star recruits has been better than their stars under Pearl... Tyler Smith, Brian Williams, Josh Tabb, Jajuan Smith, Chris Lofton, Dane Bradshaw, Andre Patterson, and Ryan Childress.

I don't see how anyone can bash Pearl. He has only showed that he can evaluate talent pretty well and is able to get the most out of his talent (unlike some coach I know...). He has dominated the conference since he joined and I hate watching ignorant football fans post on basketball. Just stay out of it and enjoy watching UT bb win.

I guess I don't see the problem with signing a kid who plays tuff defense, and distributes the ball. We've needed a pure PG on our team ever since C.J. graduated.
