Absolute BS to make this comparison!

Or the state government that accepts it?

Exactly, that idea is a little off the wall.

I am confident, excluding crazy CA, there would be some states that would jump all over opening their lands to drilling, if the federal ban is lifted. What politican does not crave tax dollars?

The answer is every last one of them!

Gotta build 440 million dollar bridges that have less than 20,000 cars travel on it per year!

So you think King Abdullah would let his biggest customer walk away? Maybe, but I wouldn't count on it.

Who would be walking away? Besides, him not liking it and him having any say so in the matter is 2 different issues. The check writing you suggest is highly improbable and would be a death sentence to any politican caught being bought out by a Mid-East King.

Exactly - and keeping the drilling out removes the possibility of some dead, bloated, toxic fish from washing up on shore and killing tourism.

so you're of the opinion that the oil companies are using technology from the 20's? Or are they using Chinese technology?

I don't know now, if King Willie wasn't the mayor down here and he was the Gov. of Tn., I wouldn't say all of that. We have some fine folks down here in Memphis, let me tell ya. :p

I'm not saying it would happen - I'm saying that running a commercial on TV along the Redneck Riviera showing dead fish on the shore with a drilling station in the distance would sway many voters.

Yes but the counter would show a Chinese platform in the distance and pointing out that we would be much more responsible about the drilling. It just might work.

I agree. But in all seriousness, this federal ban should be lifted and if it is, some states will open their coasts up for drilling.

The federal ban should be lifted - and probably will. But I'm not too optimistic about any states voting to open coastal drilling.

It should be a federal mandate to open drilling and get down to business.
