Active Players to Cooperstown

Just not even fair. He easily would have 300 SB's, 600 homers, and God knows how many doubles/triples if he didn't screw his knee up.
Oh, you mean the career Mays actually had. The myth of Mantle being better than TSHK is a fallacy perpetuated by people who wish baseball time had been frozen in 1935.

Page 18 and no meaningful mention of Roberto Clemente or Frank Robinson. I see why they were both pissed off all the time.

I'll take my chances with the prime years versions of Robby Alomar and Barry Larkin as my middle infield.

Larkin is a decent call, but you can't take Alomar over Hornsby at 2B
I most certainly can. Alomar is easily the greatest defender ever at his position, hit for power and average, stole bases, and played against competition not entirely comprised of lily white pig farmers named Cletus and Ol' Puddin'.

I think drug testing is in order for anyone who would take Brooks Robinson over Mike Schmidt or George Brett.

As always happens in these discussions, Bob Feller is being wildly underestimated.

I got Feller. Did leave off Clemente and Robinson. Not sure I'd take either on all time team. Good call on Brett.

As to Ruth in the limited competition era, you might be right, but Gibson got to play against ridiculously limited comp for the entirety of his career. He might have narrowed that gap some, but not significantly.

I still take Hornsby over Alomar, if only for the spitting in another man's face. I'd respect him more had he punched Hirschbeck. Would consider Jackie or Ryno too. Tough to compare across eras.

You probably won't go wrong. Alomar is as good as a second baseman there is. Poor Larkin was overshadowed by Ripken, and then Jeter/A-Rod/Nomar. Larkin at short was about as good as it gets.

I'd buy that, except for the fact that the first two waves of black and latin players to enter MLB from the Negro Leagues pretty much took the game over despite several teams enforcing unwritten quotas.

Took the game over is a bit strong. The pitching was still dominated by whitey, but hitting and D gave way.

I'll definitely give that olden days ball of all types is marred by lack of America's best athletes.

Baseball is played the right way in fantasy land, no DH.

That's part of the quota issue, no different than the "Last 3 Guys On The End Of The Bench In the '70s and '80s NBA." To get a shot as a pitcher, blacks and latinos had to be Newcomb, Gibson, Marichal, or Tiant. How many mediocre black or latin pitchers did you see then? It's not because they didn't exist. Look at the Negro League stats for the excellent players who made the jump. Their MLB numbers were pretty much in line with their performance in the segregated game. That tells me the pitching was comparable.
