Adams: Re-hiring Pearl would be in the best interest of the program

I was a big Pearl fan but all this talk about his possible return can't help CCM or the team. It's got to be a distraction to all.

Give me a break. That uptempo / full-court press stuff is a gimmick. You have to be able to run a half-court offense to win championships, and it doesn't have to be boring. We still got out and ran in Pearl's final years, but we could also match up against fundamentally sound half-court teams.

He was completely right. The last three years we dropped in scoring every year to 69 points per game his last year and only 19 wins. We went half court and scoring went down. Bruce o was about like Martin's his last three years.

But if Martin is fired which I think won't happen I would welcome Bruce back. But if he is fired Shaka Smart is the best option by far. Uptempo O. Pressing D. Final Four coach with a team full of nobodies.

I think it is safe to say that an "Elite 8" coach sounds pretty darn good over what we've seen the last 3 years. Give me the "Elite 8" coach.

But a multiple FINAL 4 HC sounds even better :good!: :eek:k: :hi:  :salute:

Agree completely

But, but, but... Cuonzo is doing well. Our RPI is dramatically improved over last year. Anybody that says something negative about the program doesn't really know basketball. So how can anyone be discussing replacements for our amazing coach?

Lose versus win. Not hard.

So if Zo bombs out, which is likely based on historical performance, do you trust Bama Dave to bring a top coach that turns the program into a winner like Bruce did? Bama Dave has been an AD a couple of times and assistant to the AD (Bama) in his past. Did any of the those programs have a strong, winning, basketball program? NOPE. So do you now trust he will still be able to do that because he played basketball at Bama and has what some believe is a strong background in the sport? NOPE.

He lucked into Butch after striking out a few times. Maybe you think he will luck into it again. And fans wonder why our Vol programs have sunk so low in recent times.

I have been a solid Cuonzo support til recently. I have been staunch in my opposition to hiring Pearl until recently. However, no, I do not want to roll the dice on another hire. I don't want to hire an assistant or a mid major guy again. I can't erase the memories of my 3 years as a season ticket holder before moving to Ky. The Pearl years were filled with so much excitement, and yes, I want that back. I don't know if that could be recreated or not, I just think the prospect of Butch and Bruce on the same campus would be great for the athletic department in general. Those 2 together would be something to behold.

Ok, I've admitted i chose a stupid username and that I was wrong about CCM. Grow up. I manned up and everyone on here knows my stance with CCM.

OOOh, you manned up on a message board! congrats on that.

Now that you've told me to grow up, I think my life has changed. Thanks for that advice.

I tried to seek some help in the basketball forum, but I found out they don't like anyone that has a different opinion than their own expert anaylsis.

Your opinion is fine, no need to go to the extreme you are though. Anyone who says anything now, you insist on bringing up Pearl or Martin instead of letting people just have a discussion.

Backing CCM at this point just proves you know nothing about the game of basketball. . . . Nothing

First off, I am not a Martin fan. I do not think he will get the job done in the long run. With that being said, I think a lot of people need to understand what exactly they are doing by calling for ZOs head in the middle of the season. Let's face it, this team has the attention span of a horny frat guy at a kegger. How do you think all of this negativity effects them. Guarantee you it does. Also, I feel that a lot of people are misguided with those who support CCM and this team. Personally, I WANT Martin to succeed, because I want all vol teams and coaches to be winners. As long as the wins come I'm happy. So, the way I see it, those who want Martin fired want this team to lose. AKA not true VFLs, and can kiss my :shaking2:

I'm not sure why some of you are so into Howland. The guy did get to the Final Four 2-3 times but there needs to be an addendum to that fact.

1. He was at UCLA which is a historic basketball school in a talent rich region.
2. His offenses were pretty bad. He won with defense and NBA talent that overcame his poor offensive approach. To me, he is Kevin O'Neil with the talent that UCLA is capable of pulling.

But maybe I'm wrong.

Tom Jurich and the rest of the University of Louisville administration was able to swallow their egos and pride and hired Bobby Petrino back as their football coach, because they understood what he could do for their school on the football field, which helps the University bring in top students.

Is the UT administration so egotistical that they will refuse to swallow their egos in order to get the basketball program back into prominence?

I don't think pearl would be my first choice either.

However, were not going to get my first choice. And we arnt getting anyone else's first choice either.

I believe pearl is the best choice this administration could hire. That says more about them than any coach.
