What is your opinion on this belief? Can someone explain to me in a basic simple one sentence what it means?

Im agnostic. I can tell you there's very little to it. Belief in the supernatural - but no religion.

I thought it was more on the basis of the inabiltiy to prove one way or the other.

That would just be pure agnosticism; agnostic theism is a beleif in the supernatural without knowing anything more of said force.

I would qualify myself as an agnostic theist or deist, as I find a lot of the arguments for a divine being quite compelling.

Honest question. No hidden angle.

if you believe there is a potential God out there, would you not believe he would want the world to know something about him?

I'll take a crack:

One view is that he does communicate with the world and that communication is interpreted by man in various ways that become religions. Most religions have similar core values.

Another view could be that there was a creator who is no longer in existence.

Another view could be that there was a creator but we are of minor or no consequence to him.

Etc, etc.

I do not know what that potential God out there would want and I do not think it prudent to make such assumptions.

I do think such a being would have to have been omnipotent and omniscient; would that being have been omnibenevolent, I do not know.

Just to toss in on this conversation, I do not see why an all-powerful omnipotent and omniscient being would care whether the sentient beings on a particular planet in the fringe of a particular galaxy among millions knew anything about him.

I hadn't even heard of this term. I thought I was agnostic, but I may be an agnostic theist.

Odd that out of all these planets we'd discovered so far and all these galaxies we're the only one with life though.

How many planets have we discovered? Of those planets, how many can house life? Of those planets, do we have the technology to search for life on them? We've thoroughly searched Mars... That's it. There are several other planets in the universe that we have seen and suspected of the ability to house life but have not searched.

Most simply put, to me that would mean two things;

Someone saying they are an agnostic theist would
mean:

1. They have no personaly knowledge of the Lord
Jesus Christ.

2. They seem to be equivocating, it would appear to be
an oxymoron that one could be both agnostic and deist.

There is actually a big difference in Agnosticism and Agnostic Theism..

"Within agnosticism there are agnostic atheists (who do not believe any deity exists, but do not deny it as a possibility) and agnostic theists (who believe a God exists but do not claim to know that)."

You have personal knowledge of Jesus Christ? Do you converse with him? What has he told you?

He told me you're going to hell unless something changes.

I don't think he was joking either.

Interesting, I could have sworn that according to Judeo-Christian canon pride was the root of all sin; yet, you seem to be embracing pride and defending Christianity at the same time...

See you in hell.
