Coast is fun to listen to sometimes, I love stuff like the EVP's they play. I get tired of hearing how evil Bush and Christians are though.

France has made itself irrelevant in ME affairs of late. With Dems in the office, it would never start. We'd dispatch Jimmy Carter, the Nobel Prize winning pacifist, and he'd come home and blame the Israelis for all Middle East problems, especially the plight of the Palestinians. We'd send astronomical aid packages to all involved.

Repubs would secretly long to cut the Israelis loose then support them at every turn, but the UN makes that tough, so the silly stalemate dance we see will last a while.

I agree with your observations except for the first. Since Sarkozy was elected, France has become much more overt in their actions in the ME.
France Announces Base in Persian Gulf - washingtonpost.com
The French base will be set up in Abu Dhabi, the largest and wealthiest of the seven emirates, and will become operational in 2009, according to French officials. Officials declined to provide specifics of the base's operations.

What surprised me the most was how quickly this came about.

the french presence in the ME is as daunting as Jimmy Carter in the ME.

Sarkozy is a different cat...I think France will continue grow its presence in the ME...that may change with a different leader in place

Jimmy C = worst pres ever
