Aidoo to the portal confirmed

Regardless what anyone says, losing aidoo was and is a big loss

Hopefully we can get a decent big out of the portal. That Igor kid from Charlotte seems intriguing, however, I'm not sure he's a center, more of a 4

Where do we turn for a big man. I know we are also going after Townsend from Oakland, I wasn't really blown away by him.

To my untrained nega eyes, it looks like our best case scenario is Awaka returns and pairs with Estrella at the 5. Tyson is gone. Hopefully we can finish with Lanier, Dubar and Igor from the portal. Take a project or 2 and that's a wrap.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.

Not really a lot of good big men in the portal as of right now and for whatever reason we just don't seem to get those strong ones like Dante from Oregon.

Hopefully one of the project players are a big man. Like 7 foot with meat on him

PG: ZZ/Boswell
SG: Lanier/Carr
SF: Mashack/Dunlap
PF: igor
C:?

The interesting part is who will be the sixth man? I feel like you can't have Mashack or Dunlap play that role....

Unless you don't get a big and you just play small ball but that sounds disastrous

Why is Tyson gone?

He was smoking a blunt with crack in it.

Nah, but really, it's going to be a hard selling point to get him. He's a North Carolina kid and his dad lives in NC.

Tennessee is going to need to pay some serious dough for this kid, it would be worth it though

It's being rumored that Awaka is thinking heavily about returning back to Tennessee

He wanted to test out the NIL market and wanted to leave a crowded position at PF/C

Honestly Estrella did a MUCH better job against Eady than Aidoo ever dreamed. I like Aidoo but he's too soft. I'll never understand a 7 footer being soft.

This comment is strange to me. The majority of 7 foot plus players are thin or very thin with weak knees due to the stress their height puts on them. Edey is a rarity and even bigs like UCONN'S 7'2 kid are not that common.

Guys who are in the 7 foot range and play at 270 or more are very rare and dominate college ball if they have any coordination at all. Jonas is 6'11, 240ish and many of the guys his height in college ball are a similar size, shoot 3's and don't do a lot of rim protection.

It's much more common to be a 6'7 - 6'9 guy around 240-250 and be strong as an ox like GWill, Awaka or a Tolu Smith. Problem is that those guys don't challenge the giants vertically and rely on keeping them of their spot with physical play that draws a lot of fouls

Heck, look at Bama's tall white guys this past season who were close to Jonas's size. They were stretch outside shooters and were way less physical than Jonas. Aidoo just happens to be a tweener because he has an old school center's game with a new school center or PF frame thinner frame.

Aidoo showed from December - mid February that he could be a high level college player that defends and scores but there will always be bad matchups for him because he's not quite athletic or physical enough.....improve one area (especially more athletic ability) and he is an NBA level player. He will have a long career overseas.

He catches the ball as if he has no opposable thumbs.

He has better than average hands for his position but not elite. Just ask Jimmy Dykes.

I think fans have amnesia and forget how many very good to great games Aidoo played this year. Multiple games as leading scorer with 18-22 pts or second leading scorer, 2 blocks a game and solid rebounding.

I'm impressed with your writing here

This is one of the smartest things I have seen posted here

Cool story bro

They had to work to keep him last year. Now he's back in it. At some point, you just have to accept he wants to leave and move on. See Tyler Baron. Good luck to the kid, but I'm not gonna lose any sleep over his departure. Aidoo wants to be somewhere else, go for it.
Yep

Why is Tyson gone?
UNC reportedly has made him a priority. IIRC, he's from NC. Family still lives in NC. Tall order to pull him I suspect. Not impossible, but unless he's enamored with Barnes or Knecht was able to sell him on his growth at UT, I think the odds are long.

I think he'll need to decide if he wants to be the focus at Tennessee, or a piece for his home state school.

Agreed. Kinda remember a post that indicated UNC has a couple of HS studs incoming that he'd be competing with. He'd obviously have a maturity advantage from the jump, but like you said, he'd probably be option 1...certainly top 2 at UT. Wonder how interested he is in hard coaching and defense? Hey, it's not for every kid.

So no actual news that led to that conclusion. No new reports about his intentions. That was what I was curious about. Just negative assumptions.
