Ainge vs. Woodson

Ya'll get a bowl and a winning season no matter what turns out it has been a success period. Better than Vanderbilt no doubt

Go back to basketball it is your strength for a minute. Pearl has your number

If you call going 1-1 against UK last year "having our number," so be it. :)

Seriously, it's fun to have some life breathed into that old rivalry again.

Woodson is not mobile in the least. Lorenzen was probably more elusive than AW. But AW has developed an unbelievable accuracy this year, I hope that you'll see.

By the way, I'm not the type of poster that just shows up once a year on game week just to talk smack. I'm here all year- maybe I don't post as much as Lawgator (hey, I have a life!), but I enjoy talking football.

Tennessee may win this weekend, but the tide's turning. I'm looking forward to the day when it's a rivalry game again, even though we don't have the old beer barrel anymore.

There was such a thing before?

This game will not be close. Woodson will get shut down. He is one and only main threat KY has on offense. One dimensional threat will be neutralized.

I don't care who ya root for, the QB matchup on Saturday will be fun to watch.

Rank Player Cl Gm Patt Pcomp Comppct Int Intpct Pyds Ydspatt TDs TDpct Rating
10 Erik Ainge, TN JR 10 278 189 67.99 8 2.88 2482 8.93 18 6.47 158.6
13 Andre Woodson, KY JR 11 352 218 61.93 7 1.99 2934 8.34 27 7.67 153.3
UK seems to have their fair share of Qbs.He and Ainge are ranked close in effeciency%, that's impressive.I hope our speed can get to him.

This should be a good day for Hardesty and Coker, seeing how Kentucky can't stop the run.ULM put up 351 yards of rushing on the cats.

If KY's offense were one-dimensional, I would agree wholeheartedly with you.

It really all depends on which UT and which UK team shows up. UK has very little talent on defense. If UT jumps on them early this may get ugly.

Every Mobile QB that we've faced this year has had field days. Drop-back passers, ehh... not so good.

Well, prepare yourself, because Erik Ainge is a drop-back passer that will have a field day against Kentucky. Him and Meachem had a field day last season, and, as we all know, they were playing like high schoolers last year.

Anyone who's watched this game every year for the last couple decades shouldn't be cavalier about it. KY is overmatched against us every year, and we do indeed blow them out a lot, but every two or three years there's a sphincter-loosening nailbiter. One of these years it's going to go the wrong way.

I'm looking forward to the day when it's a rivalry game again, even though we don't have the old beer barrel anymore.

A shame they don't do the beer barrel anymore, isn't it? They should have taken a year off, given the timing of the accident, but brought it back after that. Parading an ancient painted barrel around the field has exactly nothing to do the drinking choices that 20-year-olds are going to make.

And for what it's worth, I don't see how SEC fans can wish anything but success for the UK football program -- one Duke or Vandy per conference is enough. I never want you guys to actually win OUR game, of course, but I'd like to see you improve enough to start winning some games from Georgia, Florida, and others; and of course it'd be nice if you could start beating Louisville a little more often too. An improved UK can only benefit the conference as a whole.

Kentucky is ranked dead last in every Defensive category, except for Turnovers. I'll go out on a limb and say that every QB you've faced wasn't a highly mobile QB.

I haven't seen UK's RB's, so I can't compare them to ours, but I do know Coker is an explosive runner who hasn't really gotten to show his worth this year with our current OL. I expect him to have a good showing this game.

UK is 1-dimensional, just like UT is this year, both being pass-happy, no need to dance around the bush. Our OL protects Ainge much better than UK protects Woodson. Woodson is going to be feeling some pain after the game.

That being said, grats on your bowl game this year!

:salute:

edit: As for whoever mentioned the fact that Ainge has faced tougher defenses than Woodson, you are correct. UT has faced a 4.7 avg. Defense, UK has faced a 6.2.

Thanks for the kind words, Vercingetorix. Sad thing is that that accident happened a few hours after UK had blown out the Commodores 55-17.

I don't think that the spectre of the accident wore off later that week when we traveled to Knoxville for the Manning/Couch 59-31 beatdown. Couch was supposed to have been in that truck with those boys, but he decided not to go. I remember the Vol fans cheering when Couch got injured, too.

Rich Brooks has survived the hardest time- the lean probation years. He's doing things the right way- which takes longer, but is fundamentally sound. As for the defense, I'm at a loss. There's no excuse that ANY SEC defense should be #119 of 119. Brooks will not fire Archer, because he's a loyal guy, but hearsay (and I repeat that it's hearsay) is that Archer will step down after the bowl game.

Thanks for the congratulations. It's been pretty neat to see the Vols turn it around after last year, too.

I wouldn't say that Kentucky is one-dimensional. They have a pretty good run game, but no one player stands out statistically because of injuries. The key to our win vs. Georgia was pounding the run down their throat in the 4th quarter- quite a switch.

Manning wasn't the QB in the '98 game. Tee Martin was.

Yea it's like us beating Vanderbilt for twenty plus years and then they win one. Well that pissed us off and we talked more about the rivalry so it is good. But Kentucky has and will continue to be good at basketball. We need to catch up but I think Pearl is headed in the right direction. By making everyone hating UT basketball womens and mens I love being the team everyone hates
