‘23 AL CB Rickey Gibson (Tennessee commit)

Now a 4* on Rivals.

I think he'll end up in the 250 at some point...I personally think he's in the 150-200 range...

I agree with where they have Matthews and Conyers...Matthews is very polished as a CB on top of being a spectacular athlete...Conyers seems to be more of a spectacular athlete that needs polishing at the position

I will be shocked if Luttrell gets bumped... and absolutely don't care. That guy is going to be a headhunter.

I was just referring to the bump he got on Rivals last week (5.6 to 5.7) and the effect it would have on his composite...which it did...he went from .8597 to .8653

Stars schmars. This star obsession has to stop. Who's opinion matters more somebody behind a keyboard or a coach that does this for a LIVING?
Stars are strictly for the fans and the people that pay to subscribe to the sites. It is a way for us to know at least some of the bigger names. At the end of the day, the coaches eval is what matters, if they are good at it. As has been pointed out, it does not look like Butch was that great at it. I think Heup and his staff are great at it.

I tend to agree with you but the On3, rivals and 24/7 guys do it for a living as well.
See @825VOL 's post. They actually don't do it for a living. They stoke and profit on fan interest for a living. Of all fanbases, UT should pay the least amount of attention to their opinions. This is a list of guys just over the last few years who were rated 4/5* when UT signed them:

Nukeese Richardson
Darren Miles
David Oku
Corey Miller
Matt Milton
Ted Meline
DeAnthony Arnett
Marlen Lane
Dray Bowles
Pit Howard
Devante Bourque
Jason Carr
Dillon Bates
Dontavius Blair
Gavin Bryant
Drew Richmond
Tyler Byrd

The list goes on and on... I tried to avoid any who were remotely debatable.

Recruit ratings are much like pre-season predictions. None of the guys making them get held accountable for being extremely inaccurate.

The coaches' opinion matters more no debate. Sure the coaches will miss on some but I'm going to trust the person who could lose their job if they aren't good enough at it and are around the kids more

I’m not sure it really matters much if predictions are ultimately inaccurate. Nothing bad happens to the recruits if they’re ranking is too high or too low. Nothing bad happens to the teams that are ranked too high or too low in pre-season polls. Nothing bad happens to the fans of the recruits or the teams (besides maybe hurt feelings).

I suppose their accuracy could help a fan determine what service/site/reporter/talking head they choose to follow. But that’s about it in terms of impact of their (in)accuracy.
