Even if we sign Gibson and Matthews we need to get at least 1 corner in the portal and potentially 1 from JUCO. Matthews is the only one of those 3 that could come remotely close to playing as a true freshman and not be a liability, and our corner depth and experienced talent is going to be extremely thinI wonder if Heupel is gonna look in the portal?
I think we actually look good at corner for next year. Burrell is the only one we lose that'll get major playing time because of the free covid year. I could see Turnage leaving if he has a big year maybe.Even if we sign Gibson and Matthews we need to get at least 1 corner in the portal and potentially 1 from JUCO. We’ll have Williams, Hadden, Harrison, and whoever we get in this class. Turnage, Slaughter, Walker, and Turrentine are all either safeties or nickels. Charles got reps at corner this fall though. I still think we need one stud in the portal and a guy that is physically ready to come in an at least add some better depth than what we have 6-7 corners with half of them being freshmen isn’t where we need to be going into year 3 under HeupelI think we actually look good at corner for next year. For some reason I thought he was the bigger of the 2 and was around 6’1-6’2 180-190 like Jackson and that would’ve helped him get on the field a little sooner. Just checked his profile though and he’s smaller than Gibson. So reverse thoseAnd you're going by recruiting rankings ?
How is Matthews better than Gibson?
Turnage is likely to only play corner this year. You also left Rucker off the list of corners. That gives us a two deep without any new freshmen added from the '23 class. We’ll have Williams, Hadden, Harrison, and whoever we get in this class. CB depth shouldn’t be a problem. Unless you can get a bonafide stud, there’s no reason to take a body. Hadden will have an outside spot locked down. Martinez should know what he has with Williams and Harrison after a year. Wesley Walker can play NB. Turnage likely plays outside. Charles can play NB, maybe even outside. Rucker can play outside. Slaughter can play NB. Conyer can play outside (not sure if he’s an early enrollee). I’m sure Turrentine could slide down to NB if he had to. They’ll try to get McDonald on the field some as well. This position will be fine if Williams and/or Harrison were solid evaluations. We’ll have Williams, Hadden, Harrison, and whoever we get in this class. Not worried about nickel. We have plenty of those. It doesn’t seem like we have any true corners though. Just a bunch of guys that are decent at each DB spot. We need 2 true corners. -VQAlabama defensive back Ricky Gibson will visit Georgia on the final weekend of the month. This one is down to Georgia, Tennessee and Arkansas and his upcoming visit to Athens is definitely one to watch.
Turnage can be a true corner but we didn’t think we had a true NB without Theo. I think Flowers and Charles are a lock to start, but I feel like one will be at NB. Like it or not, Burrell will start. He played very well last year outside of a couple huge mistakes that exposed him. I’m not saying it would be my choice, but based on what Martinez thinks of him, he doesn’t let those mistakes happen, he’s a starter without question.Turnage can be a true corner but we didn’t think we had a true NB without Theo. CB: Hadden, Williams, Rucker
CB: Turnage, Burrell, Harrison
NB: Charles, Walker, Slaughter
S: McCollough, McDonald, Thomas
S: Flowers, Turrentine
If I had my pick though, I’d move Turrentine ahead of McCollough. Martinez plays it safe though.

He didn't do well at all...he's PFF numbers were abysmal for almost every gameLike it or not, Burrell will start. He played very well last year outside of a couple huge mistakes that exposed him. The staff considers him our number one guy….. a recruit recently mentioned him as the next guy that they will get drafted….. we shall see….. we need better pass rush, and depth to be better all the way around on defense.he did not play well at all.
turn on any game esp any game in the 2nd half of the season.
