'20 AL DE Jimari Butler (Nebraska commit)

Ohh no his wife played a big role into why he’s the man he is today.
you lost me man. Is it Wes Rucker?
i'm not into listening to a bunch of leadership who ha. very few individuals have ever been able to fulfill that role.

3 star with an offer list from schools similar to us (results wise) over the last several years. We may not like, but its where we are at
It's just gonna be a little slower going without a bevy of instant impact guys.

I still say they're recruiting the right TYPES of players. Just some, like this kid and several others, have the right size/frame and skill set... But will require development before we see the fruits of their labor.

It is what it is. But we've seen them already do some good work on the development front.

There's value in that too

I think CJP and his staff have already proven that they know talent and can coach what they have into improving.....
If folks can't see that from the progression on Defense this year....then nothing is going to turn the light on for 'em.

Too many people would rather trust the rating of a bunch of frustrated athletes (a.k.a. sportswriters) who give higher ratings to the players that help them make money.

I trust in cjp and his recruiting profile he's known for going out and getting great under the radar guys look at the guy from ga and msst this year that went high in the draft

Three-star Class of 2020 defensive end/linebacker Jimari Butler of Murphy High School in Mobile, Ala., announced his commitment to Tennessee on Friday afternoon, choosing the Vols over scholarship offers from more than 10 other programs.
The 6-foot-5, 218-pound Butler is “a developmental pass rusher,” 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong said, but also is “a prospect I believe they would’ve taken regardless of who was already in the fold” after Tennessee extended an offer to him in late September.
“The initial quickness, motor, ability to bend and natural strength coming off the edge make him an intriguing prospect, compounded by the fact this is his first year playing football after focusing on basketball for so long,” Wiltfong said of Butler, who’s ranked the No. 852 overall prospect and No. 39 weakside defensive end in the 2020 class, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.
“Weighing in at 215 pounds now, he’ll easily pack another 30 to 35 pounds on his frame and should be a factor for the Vols coming off the edge after a year or two in the hopper.”
Butler decided to play football as a senior for the first time since middle school after focusing on basketball earlier in his high-school career.
He racked up offers from Ole Miss, Nebraska, TCU, Maryland, Illinois and Kansas, among others, before announcing his commitment to Tennessee, which hosted him Oct. 5 for its home game against Georgia.
John Garcia Jr., a 247Sports recruiting analyst who covers the states of Alabama and Florida, said Tennessee “really believed” in Butler “before anybody else at the (Power Five) level.”

“You like to see them trusting their own eyes and evaluation as opposed to waiting on others,” Garcia said. “But in terms of Butler’s game, this is the type of late bloomer that we regret not having ranked higher when all is said and done.
“He’s the type that we wish we saw sooner, that we wish we saw in person more because he has the tools to blossom into exactly every defense needs on the edge, and that’s a guy with length, twitch and speed. He’s already showing that at a very high level in high school, and that’s with minimal focus on football, so the possibilities of him doing so with an SEC coaching staff and strength and conditioning program at his back are going to be fascinating to watch.”
Garcia said Butler has “put up monster numbers” this season, including double-digit sacks, and he “was the dominant pass rusher in Mobile this fall.”

And while he still has plenty of room to improve, Butler might even have a chance to play his way onto the field early in his Tennessee career as a projected edge rusher at outside linebacker in the Vols’ 3-4 defense.
“He’s a dude, man,” Garcia said of Butler. “I think he’s a play-year-one kind of guy.”

D line playing improved on the back end of schedule. Very happy they are but depth is a huge issue. We lose DT next year as well.
But we have a massive true freshman in Elijah Simmons that will have learned technique and will maul the middle of O-lines next year. Remember, He is the one that JJ Watt wanted Houston to draft when he stood behind the podium during this year's draft.

Time to ignore your weak azz mental midget
Why is it that everyone talks about needing "big" fish, players that can come right in and compete, then when we land 2 low 3-stars back to back everyone says, "great pickup" "2-3 years this kid will be good." That doesn't help our program now. And if they are gonna be such great players why aren't big programs pursuing them.

I post 3-star U and people get but hurt. It's laughable. There are 3 star players that I have liked us taking, and 4 star players that I haven't really cared for much. My opinion isn't always going to be the same as everyone else's.

Ultimately I just want to win games and to win we have to start by winning recruiting battles against big schools not schools like SMU.

Pruitt is going to have this kid looking like that lanky UAB edge guy who whooped Wanya's arse all game. Very nice pick up

That's just it. Crapping on this program is the only thing that make them happy. Being miserable is a way of life to some. I don't get it. Seeing this kid's film is exciting when you think about how little football he has actually played.
The problem being, how many of them do you think actually took the time to watch his film, before going salty? My guess, not many.
I can’t even pretend to know anything about this kid or “breaking down” his film, so it would be real easy for me to come in here and start moaning about his ranking or lack there of, but that is sadly, the mentality of our instantly bemoaning, instant gratification, Instantly offensive society, it’s lazy and most take the lazy route. One thing I have learned in following recruiting, it is a big business for the services and if you don’t camp, you don’t rank, plain and simple. I’m gonna let this play out and see if he picks up any more offers. Is he the “sexy” commit? No. Can he become a player that contributes to our rebuild? Who knows, none of us do. Welcome to Big Orange country young man! Now get your @$$ to work and help build this program back!!
GBO!!

Missouri seems to have figured out (maybe not this year) how to turn those 3 stars that no one wants into great players by the time they leave on the DL. I definitely wouldn’t complain if we started pumping out D Linemen the way they normally do (1st round DEs year after year).

Get Maryland type commits, get Maryland like results. Hope everyone is okay with 6-6 for the foreseeable future. And this is entirely the staff's fault. I'm not convinced winning against Georgia State and BYU would've changed anything. This was a mess since May.

You wouldn't know a Maryland type player if he slapped you in the face. Kid has big upside and the film jumps.
